Lulu Santos was recognized by the Latin Recording Academy in 2024 with its Musical Excellence Award, according to the Academy’s award archive. The Academy’s announcement for that year lists him among its Lifetime Achievement Award recipients; these are two labels for the same recognition, not two separate honors.
What award did Lulu Santos receive?
The Latin Recording Academy’s award archive lists Santos as a 2024 recipient of the Premio a la Excelencia Musical, or Musical Excellence Award. Why does the Academy also call it a Lifetime Achievement Award?
The Academy’s 2024 announcement uses the name “Lifetime Achievement Award” and includes Santos among that year’s honorees. It describes the honor as recognizing performers’ creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music and its communities. In other words, the archive’s “Musical Excellence Award” and the announcement’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” refer to the same 2024 recognition, rather than separate awards. When was the recognition celebrated?
The Academy’s announcement said the honorees would be celebrated during Latin GRAMMY Week, ahead of the 2024 Latin GRAMMYs. It did not establish Santos’s individual presentation date, venue, attendance, or what happened during his presentation, so those details should not be inferred from the announcement.
