That preview did not confirm how their story would end. The later Season 5 outcome is clearer: Kayce makes a new ranching life with Monica and their son, on his own terms.
What did Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille tease?
Grimes plays Kayce Dutton, and Asbille plays Monica Long Dutton, Kayce’s wife. MovieWeb’s listing for a November 12, 2024 interview says the conversation focused on the final episodes and where Kayce’s loyalties would lie as his brother and sister became embroiled in a dangerous feud. The listing also notes that the second half of Season 5 returned on November 10, 2024. MovieWeb’s interview listing gives a useful outline of the topic, but not a full transcript, so it does not establish that either actor disclosed the couple’s eventual fate.
A separate official CBS Mornings video page hosted by Paramount+ describes Grimes and Asbille discussing what keeps Kayce and Monica connected through setbacks, including the meaning of Kayce’s “the end of us” vision. The accessible page description does not provide their exact answers either. Taken together, the available descriptions point to the relationship’s strain and Kayce’s competing family loyalties, not a confirmed spoiler about the finale.
Do Kayce and Monica end up together?
Yes. Looking back on the fifth and final season in a February 25, 2026 report, the Associated Press describes Kayce as building a new ranching life on his own terms with Monica and their son. Grimes said he liked that resolution because Kayce got the simple life he had wanted: “I love the way this ends for him. He kind of got what he always wanted, which is just a simple life.”

That later account supplies the broad answer the 2024 interview listing cannot: Kayce and Monica’s story ends with them together, pursuing a quieter life rather than being separated by the family conflict. Grimes also recalled thinking, “This is it,” about the ending.
What did Kayce mean by “the end of us”?
The phrase appears in the description of the CBS Mornings interview as a vision whose meaning Grimes and Asbille discussed in relation to what sustains Kayce and Monica through setbacks. The description does not quote their explanation, so it would be misleading to present a specific interpretation as their confirmed answer. In the context of the finale, the phrase is a source of uncertainty about the couple’s future, not proof that they ultimately split up.
How does the finale connect to later Yellowstone stories?
The AP’s 2026 report also covers Grimes returning as Kayce in Marshals, where he joins a Montana U.S. Marshals team. That is a later franchise development, separate from the Season 5 ending. The finale gives Kayce the family life he wanted; later circumstances in the spinoff change that picture. Keeping those timelines distinct helps avoid treating the later series as evidence that Kayce and Monica did not end Season 5 together.
