She met Moore in 1961 while they were working on Romulus and the Sabines; they had two children before marrying in London in 1969, and a third child in 1973. They separated in 1993, though published accounts disagree about when their divorce was finalized.
Early life and acting career
Mattioli was born in San Stino di Livenza, in Italy’s Veneto region near Venice. She studied at Rome’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and made her screen debut at 20 in Napoli sole mio!, according to the Irish Independent obituary. She also worked as a television presenter.

Her acting work was concentrated in the 1950s and early 1960s. The obituary names Presentimento, La notte del grande assalto, Mia nonna poliziotto, I fratelli corsi, Un branco di vigliacchi and Bikini Pericolosi among her films. The available accounts provide selected titles, not a complete, independently verified filmography.
How Luisa Mattioli met Roger Moore
Mattioli met Moore in 1961 around the production of Romulus and the Sabines. The Irish Independent says she interviewed him for television before filming began. Moore was then married to singer Dorothy Squires, and his marriage to Squires continued as his relationship with Mattioli developed.

Marriage and children
Mattioli and Moore had two children before they married: Deborah, born in 1963, and Geoffrey, born in 1966. They married at Caxton Hall in Westminster, London, in April 1969; the local account by 1600Venezia gives the date as 11 April. Their third child, Christian, was born in 1973. The family later lived in Switzerland, the Irish Independent reported.
In an earlier interview excerpt republished by MI6-HQ in 2013, Mattioli described Moore as “the most comfortable man, and actor – yes, but also a normal man, very calm, very good, reliable when the water gets rough.” The quotation is from that republished interview, not a newly conducted one.

Separation and the disputed divorce date
Accounts agree that Mattioli and Moore separated in 1993, but they do not give a consistent year for the divorce. The Irish Independent gives 2000. The Guardian’s October 2000 report says Moore was then free to marry, while 1600Venezia says the divorce was officially finalized in 2002. IMDb lists 1996, but that database entry does not settle the conflict. The sources may be referring to different legal milestones or contain reporting errors; the available reporting does not establish which explanation is correct.
Death
Mattioli died in Switzerland on 5 October 2021, aged 85. Rai News reported her death the following day and attributed to the Daily Mail the detail that she had been ill for some time.

Roger Moore’s 2008 autobiography, My Word Is My Bond, is one account of the couple’s early relationship. It is Moore’s recollection, not a memoir by Mattioli.
