Lucinda Williams and her band replaced Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit as the special guest on Paul Kelly’s 2025 Australian dates. The Australian lineup change did not apply to the New Zealand shows, and Kelly remained the headliner.
Who replaced Jason Isbell?
Promoter Frontier Touring announced on 15 April 2025 that Williams and her band would take Isbell and the 400 Unit’s place as special guest for the Australian leg. The promoter said Isbell’s act would not join the tour because of “unforeseen circumstances”; it gave no more specific reason and did not attribute that phrase to Isbell personally. Frontier Touring’s lineup update also named Fanny Lumsden as part of the Australian bill, opening all Australian shows.

How the lineup changed
The original tour announcement on 23 October 2024 billed Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit as the Australian special guest. Fanny Lumsden was listed as the Australian opener, while Reb Fountain was named for the New Zealand dates. Frontier Touring’s original announcement sets out that initial billing.
The later change was limited to Australia: Williams and Fanny Lumsden appeared on the Australian listings, while Reb Fountain remained the named guest for the three New Zealand shows. Williams was not announced for the New Zealand leg. Frontier Touring’s tour page distinguishes the regional lineups and now marks the 2025 shows as completed.
