Lover, Stalker, Killer is a 2024 Netflix feature documentary about the Cari Farver case, told largely through the experience of Dave Kroupa. It combines interviews and reenactments to trace a story of harassment, digital deception and murder. What is Lover, Stalker, Killer about?
Directed by Sam Hobkinson and made by Curious Films, the documentary follows Dave Kroupa as his relationships and the disappearance of Cari Farver become entangled in a prolonged campaign of deception. Netflix describes the film as a story involving harassment, digital deception and murder. Its official title listing identifies it as a documentary, not a scripted series.
The film uses interviews with people involved in the case, including law-enforcement officers, alongside reenactments. Hobkinson told Netflix Tudum that the film follows Kroupa’s experience of confusion and disbelief. In a July 17, 2025 interview, he said: “We enter this story from the perspective of Dave, who is caught in a complete web of falsehood. I wanted the storytelling to somehow reflect that confusion, and ultimately, his total disbelief when he realizes what’s happened.”

Netflix Tudum’s account places the opening events in 2012. Kroupa had moved to Omaha and was dating Liz Golyar before meeting Farver at his auto shop. Farver was murdered on the day Kroupa began receiving messages from her phone. The documentary reveals Golyar as the person behind the murder and the ensuing deception.

The revelation reframes the messages and apparent relationship conflict that drive the film. Because the story is structured around Kroupa’s perspective, the audience encounters the deception as he does, rather than receiving the answer at the outset. When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
Lover, Stalker, Killer was released on Netflix on February 9, 2024, according to TIME’s February 2024 release guide. Netflix classifies it as a TV-MA documentary. The Netflix listing says offline viewing is available and lists English original audio, audio description, and multiple audio and subtitle languages. Catalog access and language options can vary by territory and change, so check the title page in your local Netflix catalog.

The “shot to #1” claim is not established by the cited sources. Netflix’s title listing, Media Center description and Tudum coverage do not provide a dated ranking with a named chart and territory. Without that information, a specific chart position cannot be stated as fact.
