Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo are drawn together by a work opportunity linked to her former company, while an unsettling encounter leaves Seok-ryu shaken.
What happens in “Past Perfect”?
The episode opens with Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo opening a time capsule and reading the letters they left inside. Their shared past gives way to a present-day professional complication: Seok-ryu visits Seung-hyo’s firm, where her former company, Greip, is seeking to work with the firm. She steps in to help with English communication.

That collaboration brings the childhood friends into each other’s orbit in a new way, but the episode also takes a more unsettling turn. Its catalog synopsis identifies an encounter that rattles Seok-ryu without specifying more; a published recap describes family financial strain and tension involving Seung-hyo’s mother as additional threads in the episode.

How Episode 4 fits the series
Netflix describes Love Next Door as the story of a woman who returns to Korea to restart her life and becomes entangled with a childhood friend with whom she has a complicated history. In “Past Perfect,” the time-capsule letters make that history tangible, while the Greip opportunity puts Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo into a present-day working relationship.
