Clay Gravesande said no to marrying Amber Desiree “AD” Smith at the Love Is Blind Season 6 altar. Based on the relationship the show presented, AD had good reason not to say yes: Clay’s comments about her appearance raised concerns, and his own later reflections acknowledged that his ego and delivery needed work. Those are grounds for a viewer to question whether he was ready to be her partner—not proof of his private motives or a diagnosis of his character.
What happened between AD and Clay?
Season 6 premiered on February 14, 2024, followed singles based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and concluded with a finale on March 6 and reunion on March 13, according to Netflix’s release schedule. AD and Clay connected in the pods, where the experiment asks people to form relationships without seeing one another. But questions Clay raised about AD’s appearance brought that premise into their conversations.
Netflix Tudum’s Season 6 relationship recap describes AD challenging why appearance mattered in an experiment built around not seeing a partner. She asked, “In what way do you want to talk about appearance in an experiment where we’re not talking about appearance?” Clay apologized, and the recap presents his vulnerability as part of why she continued the relationship.
Why the appearance comments raised a red flag
The concern is not simply that Clay had preferences or anxieties. It is that appearance became a point of tension in a relationship whose premise was to look beyond it. AD was entitled to ask whether those questions reflected the kind of partnership she wanted. His apology mattered, but it did not obligate her to dismiss the concern or proceed toward marriage.

The gym remark
After the engagement, Netflix’s recap recounts Clay telling AD that if she were out of shape, he would tell her to go to the gym. AD objected directly: she said he would not talk to her that way and called the comment crazy. Clay agreed that his delivery needed work and again recognized his ego as a problem.
That exchange is enough to explain why a viewer could see a problem: the comment framed his hypothetical response to a partner’s body as blunt criticism, and AD said she would not accept being spoken to that way. The available account establishes this specific exchange; it does not, by itself, establish a broader pattern beyond the scenes reported.

Clay’s apologies are relevant, but they do not settle the question
A fair reading includes the counterevidence. The Netflix recap says Clay apologized in the pods, showed vulnerability, and later acknowledged that his delivery needed work. In a post-season interview with Netflix Tudum, he reflected: “I have a self-proclaimed huge ego, and I lead with that a lot, so I had to break that down.” That is an admission of a concern he recognized in himself. It is not evidence that the concern was resolved, or that marriage would have worked.
Clay also described his parents’ marriage ending with infidelity and said he wanted a different future. That is context he offered for his thinking; it is not evidence that he would be unfaithful. A family history cannot establish what a person will do in their own relationship.

Why AD was justified in walking away
At the altar, Clay declined to marry AD, while she said yes. Netflix’s status roundup records their outcome as “Separated at the Altar.” His decision meant the relationship did not become a marriage, but the central question for AD was whether she wanted to continue with someone whose comments had already made her challenge how he spoke about her appearance.
AD later told Tudum that they did not explore a relationship after filming and remained friends. She said: “I really felt like Clay had his time, and what he did with that time is now something he has to deal with.” Her statement makes clear that she held to her decision; it does not require speculation about her private reasoning. A viewer can reasonably conclude that she was right not to marry him on the evidence shown, even while recognizing that the edited series cannot reveal every part of either person’s experience.

No. Netflix’s status roundup lists them as “Not Together.” In its March 2025 Season 8 reunion coverage, Netflix also reported that AD and Ollie were engaged by that reunion and had since welcomed a baby girl. Those are reported milestones as of that coverage, not a guarantee of anyone’s future relationship status.
