What was reported as Loni Anderson’s cause of death?
TMZ reported that a death certificate it obtained listed metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma as Anderson’s cause of death. The specific diagnosis should be attributed to TMZ’s report; the available account does not establish that the Associated Press, Anderson’s family, or her publicist separately announced it. TMZ’s August 22, 2025 report is the source for the certificate detail.
When did Anderson die, and what was said initially?
Anderson died at age 79 on August 3, 2025, at a Los Angeles hospital, the Associated Press reported. She would have turned 80 two days later. Her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, initially said Anderson had died after a “prolonged” illness; that announcement did not identify a cause. The Associated Press report also reproduced a family statement: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother.”
Why did the early announcement not give a diagnosis?
The first announcement described the illness only as prolonged. TMZ’s report naming a cause came later, on August 22. Those are different stages of reporting, not conflicting accounts. Early speculation about COPD was not identified in the initial announcement as Anderson’s cause of death, so it should not be treated as established fact.
