Longlegs is a 2024 horror thriller written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Maika Monroe stars as FBI agent Lee Harker, who follows occult clues while investigating an elusive serial killer played by Nicolas Cage. NEON’s synopsis describes her effort to solve the clues and stop the killer’s spree; whether the film feels frightening is subjective, but its official categories include horror, thriller and crime.
What is Longlegs about?
Lee Harker’s investigation centers on a serial killer and a trail of occult clues. The official synopsis keeps the details spare: Harker must solve those clues to end the killer’s spree. That setup places the film between a crime investigation and supernatural-tinged horror without giving away how the mystery unfolds.

Perkins described the film on NEON’s official page as “This movie really does have kind of everything in it when it comes to expectations of the genre. It’s sort of like a horror movie mixtape.” That is his description of the genre mix, rather than a promise that every viewer will find it scary.
Who stars in Longlegs?
Maika Monroe plays Lee Harker, and Nicolas Cage plays the title character. NEON’s principal cast also includes Blair Underwood and Alicia Witt. In a July 10, 2024 TIME interview, Monroe said of the script, “It was one of those scripts where I was like, ‘I need to be a part of this,’” and added, “I was obsessed with the world that it’s set in.”
