These are editorial picks from published photo galleries—not an objective ranking—chosen to show the festival’s range, from Chappell Roan’s Thursday audience to Future and Metro Boomin’s Saturday performance.
Four days in Grant Park, told in photographs
The Chicago edition of Lollapalooza ran August 1–4, 2024, at Grant Park. Its photo record is broader than a headliner list: galleries capture artists onstage, fans in the audience, arrivals and people cooling off in the summer heat.
The Rolling Stone photo feature, published August 2, presented scenes onstage, backstage and on the ground, highlighting Chappell Roan, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, The Killers and Future x Metro Boomin. Its selection offers a useful cross-section, but it is not a claim that these are the festival’s objectively best frames.
Thursday: Chappell Roan, Tyla and Hozier
Chappell Roan’s Thursday set drew a large crowd, a moment noted in the Recording Academy’s festival recap. The WBEZ photo gallery and the Chicago Sun-Times gallery also identify day-one images of Roan, Tyla, Hozier and Kesha. Seen together, those frames shift the focus between a major audience response and the distinct performers sharing the opening day.

#1 Best Overall
Saturday: Future and Metro Boomin share the stage
Future and Metro Boomin performed “Young Metro” on the Bud Light stage on Saturday, August 3, according to the Columbia Chronicle’s Lollapalooza gallery. The caption’s date, stage and song give the performance frame a specific place in the weekend’s story, rather than leaving it as an unidentified festival image.
Sunday and the festival’s wider cast
The Sun-Times gallery’s 124 images span all four days, including day-four photographs of Blink-182 and Melanie Martinez. Across the wider selection, captions also document arrivals, fans and ways people dealt with the summer heat. That variety makes the galleries useful as visual records of the event, not just collections of stage shots.
Rank #2
Photographer credits in the Sun-Times gallery include Anthony Vazquez, Peyton Reich and Tyler Pasciak LaRiviere. The WBEZ/Sun-Times captions and Columbia Chronicle gallery also identify artists and, in many cases, performance days or stages. When sharing or discussing an image, retain the credit and caption attached to that specific frame.
How these “best photos” are selected
“Best” here is an editorial judgment, not a published scoring system. A strong sequence balances four kinds of value:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Visual variety: mix stage performances with audience reactions, fan portraits and views of the festival setting.
- Moment significance: include frames that convey a memorable performance, a crowd response or an unusual interaction.
- Caption confidence: favor images whose source identifies the artist and, where available, the day, stage and photographer.
- Sequence value: choose each frame because it adds a distinct beat to the four-day account rather than repeating the same view.
The cited galleries support this range of subjects and caption detail; the criteria above explain the editorial approach, not a ranking published by the galleries.

For a broad, captioned record, the WBEZ/Sun-Times galleries provide a day-by-day view, while the Columbia Chronicle adds stage-specific performance captions. Rolling Stone’s selection moves among onstage, backstage and on-the-ground scenes. The Recording Academy recap supplies context for Roan’s Thursday crowd and calls attention to Tyla and Friday performers Stray Kids, Zedd and Laufey with the Chicago Philharmonic.
