Loki has a strong case for being one of the most consequential MCU series: it turns the fallout from Avengers: Endgame into a multiverse crisis that carries from its first season into its second. But “the biggest impact” is an interpretation, not a measured ranking—Marvel’s official coverage does not compare the Disney+ shows on a shared scale.
How does Loki affect the MCU?
The series begins with a version of Loki created by the events of Avengers: Endgame. During the Avengers’ 2012 time heist, Loki escapes with the Tesseract. The Time Variance Authority apprehends him, drawing him into a story about the rules governing time and the timelines those rules contain. Marvel’s Episode 1 recap describes that starting point, while its Loki character page places the series after Endgame.
That setup expands the consequences of the time heist beyond one escaped variant. In the season 1 finale, Loki and Sylvie confront He Who Remains, who has controlled the TVA’s management of the timeline. Sylvie kills him. Marvel’s finale recap says new timeline branches appear afterward, and Loki warns that many versions of a dangerous person are coming and are set on war. The episode thus makes the multiverse threat a direct consequence of the characters’ choices.
Does Loki set up the multiverse?
Yes—in the show’s story, and as an expressed creative aim. Marvel reported that head writer Michael Waldron intended the series to establish the multiverse and a time-traveling, multiversal adversary. That intention is reflected in the finale’s branching timelines and warning about multiple versions of a threat. Marvel’s coverage of the season 1 finale documents Waldron’s stated aim.

Season 2 follows the consequences rather than treating the finale as a self-contained twist. Loki time-slips, while the Temporal Loom nears overload and the TVA faces a crisis that puts the timelines—and people Loki cares about—at risk. The series shifts from discovering the TVA’s system to confronting what responsibility for that system means. In Marvel’s season 2 interview, Tom Hiddleston described the change this way: “If Season 1 was about self-awareness and self-acceptance, Season 2 is about taking responsibility and trying to find a new purpose.”
Why the series has unusually broad stakes
- It grows out of a major film event: the series follows the 2012 variant created by the time heist in Endgame, connecting its premise to the wider MCU timeline.
- Its consequences extend beyond Loki: the death of He Who Remains is followed by branching timelines and the prospect of many dangerous variants.
- It sustains those consequences across two seasons: season 2 brings the TVA and the Temporal Loom into an ongoing crisis, with the timelines and the characters Loki values at stake.
Together, those elements make the show’s reach unusually wide: its central conflict concerns not only Loki’s identity or one corner of the MCU, but the mechanisms and stability of multiple timelines.

Can it be called the MCU’s most impactful Disney+ show?
That depends on what “impact” means. A fair comparison might ask whether a show changes the wider timeline, establishes a mechanism or threat used beyond its own story, and carries consequences beyond its finale. Loki makes a persuasive case on those qualitative measures. The official sources cited here, however, do not rank every MCU Disney+ show or apply a common measure to them. So the careful conclusion is that Loki may have the biggest impact—not that it has been objectively proven to do so.
Nor does the show’s original multiverse setup, by itself, establish a particular future film appearance or production plan. The evidence supports what the series set in motion on screen and what its creators said they intended, not a guarantee about where those threads will lead.
