Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has drawn attention for putting a woman superhero at the center of a Malayalam action-fantasy film while introducing a larger fictional world. The conversation also reflects its creators’ ambitions and early reported box-office momentum—not a universal verdict on the film’s quality.
1. Chandra puts a woman superhero at the center
Kalyani Priyadarshan plays Chandra, the superhero at the heart of the story. Contemporary coverage has described the film as Malayalam cinema’s first female-superhero or female-centric superhero film. That distinction should be understood as a description used by those outlets, not as a definitive historical audit of every earlier production. Onmanorama discusses the female-led premise with director Dominic Arun.
For viewers used to superhero stories led by male protagonists, Chandra’s central role is an immediate point of difference. It also gives the film a clear character focus amid the action and larger-universe framing.
2. The lead is framed as small within a bigger universe
Arun described Chandra as “the smallest superhero in this universe,” in an interview quoted by Cinema Express. The line suggests a deliberate contrast: the story follows a distinctive hero without presenting her as the most powerful figure in the world the film is beginning to build.
#1 Best Overall
That scale can make the premise more character-focused than a superhero story built only around escalating spectacle. It also gives the chapter title a narrative function: Chandra’s story is one entry point into a setting that may extend beyond her.
3. It opens a larger Lokah world
Coverage of Arun and producer Dulquer Salmaan frames Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra as the start of a wider series or fictional world. The “Chapter 1” label invites viewers to look for connections and future stories, while the film still introduces its own central character and premise. The Hollywood Reporter India discusses the project’s broader world-building.
That ambition is part of the appeal, but it is best treated as an invitation rather than a promise about specific characters, plot links, or a sequel timetable. The available coverage does not establish those details.
4. Its early box-office reports added to the conversation
Box-office figures helped make the film a talking point beyond its premise. Cinema Express reported on September 12, 2025, that the film crossed ₹200 crore worldwide in 13 days. The Times of India reported on September 17, 2025, that it had reached the ₹200 crore milestone in under three weeks.
These are dated media reports of an early theatrical milestone, not an audited final lifetime gross or a basis for an all-time ranking. Their significance here is that the reported pace gave the film’s reception and ambitious universe-building wider visibility.
5. The production story and craft have invited discussion
Arun’s interview with Onmanorama covers the project’s development and the determination behind making it. Writer Santhy Balachandran also discussed preparation and the writing process in an OTTplay interview. Those accounts offer the creators’ perspectives on how the film took shape, rather than independently audited production details.

That behind-the-scenes context broadens the discussion beyond the superhero premise: viewers can consider how a Malayalam film approaches genre world-building and character scale. An interview also drew attention to performances and Jakes Bijoy’s background score, though those craft elements are matters for individual viewers’ assessment rather than proof of universal acclaim.
