What Gunn meant by calling Superman an immigrant story
Gunn’s interpretation connects Superman’s origins as an alien arriving from another world with the experience of being an immigrant or outsider. It also emphasizes basic human kindness as a central part of the character’s meaning.
Cain took the opposite view of that emphasis. He argued that the political explanation was unnecessary and risked alienating some members of the audience. These are competing interpretations of Superman’s cultural symbolism, not evidence that Cain was involved in Gunn’s film. Cain’s connection to the 2025 discussion comes from his earlier role as Superman, not from a role in the new movie.
Two Superman stories, not one cause-and-effect story
It is tempting to connect the streaming disappearance with Cain’s criticism because both stories surfaced around the same period. The available evidence does not support that conclusion. The streaming listings and viewer reports concern licensing and platform availability; Cain’s remarks concern Gunn’s creative and political framing of a separate 2025 film.
