Lizzo’s public posts show visible changes between selected images and videos from 2021 through July 2025. She has described a gradual approach involving training, cardio, meal preparation and dietary changes, but neither the photos nor the reported app figures establish a medically verified amount of weight lost. Lizzo has called the process a “weight-release journey” and has said that changes to her body should not be treated as a measure of her worth.
What Lizzo’s before-and-after posts show
The public record is a series of posts and reported comments over time, rather than one controlled before-and-after measurement. Women’s Health described a video comparing Lizzo’s 2021 and 2024 footage, along with other progress posts and exercise videos she shared in 2024 (Women’s Health, updated November 25, 2024).
In January 2025, Lizzo said she had reached her “weight release goal.” The Independent reported that graphics she shared compared readings dating back to January 16, 2023 (The Independent, January 27, 2025). On July 3, 2025, she posted another side-by-side comparison and described her approach in the caption (Billboard Canada, July 3, 2025).
These images document how she appeared in the particular footage and photos she chose to compare. They cannot establish exactly how much weight she lost, when each change occurred, or what caused it. Lighting, clothing, pose and camera angle also differ between images, so a visual comparison is not a reliable way to calculate pounds lost.

What the reported measurements do—and do not—say
The Independent reported that Lizzo’s Instagram graphics showed BMI down 10.5 percent and total body fat down 16 percent since January 16, 2023. Those are figures as reported from her shared app graphics; the article does not clarify whether the percentages mean relative reductions or percentage-point changes. They should not be recast as a specific number of pounds or as a clinical assessment.
Healthline’s November 27, 2024 headline referred to “60 pounds,” but its article did not establish independently verified starting and ending weights. The public sources cited here do not provide a verified exact pounds-lost figure. A headline number is not a substitute for a documented measurement, and the reported app percentages cannot be converted into pounds without information the sources do not provide.

How Lizzo says she approached it
In the July 2025 caption reproduced by Billboard, Lizzo described three training sessions a week, daily sauna and cardio, adding animal protein, and getting help from a chef with meal preparation and calorie tracking. She also named pickleball, hiking, walking, dancing and drinking water. Her caption mentioned detoxing and bodywork as part of her account; that does not establish either as a proven weight-loss method.
Healthline reported that Lizzo credited a calorie deficit, higher-protein eating that included animal protein, and strength training. It quoted her explanation: “After tests and research, I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight, and helped with my mental fog.” That is her reported personal experience, not evidence that the same foods or routine will suit everyone. Healthline also included dietitians’ caution that dietary suitability varies by individual (Healthline, November 27, 2024).

Billboard also reported that Lizzo said she cut sugary Starbucks drinks, full-fat sodas and potato chips. These details describe what she said she changed; they do not show that any one change caused a particular outcome. Her account is not a clinical trial, a prescribed plan or a guarantee of results for someone else.
What she has said about pace, body image and weight gain
In a March 2024 interview with The New York Times, as quoted by The Independent, Lizzo said, “I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly.” In that interview she also said, “My body is nobody’s business.” The Independent reported her description of a body-neutral perspective: how she feels about her body can change from day to day.

Women’s Health reported an earlier comment from Lizzo that exercise had helped her mindset, “not my body.” In 2025, she framed the process as “weight release” rather than a demand to stay at a particular size. Billboard quoted her saying: “It’s okay to gain weight after you’ve released weight, because what you’re not going to do is shame me if my body changes again and I get bigger.” She also wrote, “I’m so happy and proud of what I’ve done, and no one can take that away from me.”

Women’s Health and Healthline reported that, in September 2024, Lizzo responded to Ozempic speculation with a joke linking the accusations to five months of weight training and a calorie deficit. Healthline also reported that her trainer, Corey Calliet, denied the rumor. These are public comments by Lizzo and her trainer; they do not independently verify her medication history.
