Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet counted 21.5 billion hours watched across their tracked platforms; Streams Charts reported more than 31.4 billion across a broader tracked set. These are different scopes, not competing estimates of an identical universe.
How many hours were watched in Q2 2026?
Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet reported 21.5 billion hours watched across the platforms in their Q2 2026 report. That was 0.1% above Q1 2026 and 7.6% above Q2 2025. Streams Charts reported more than 31.4 billion hours watched across its own tracked platforms for the same quarter. Its broader platform coverage means the two totals should not be averaged or described as if they measured the same set of services.
The difference in coverage matters especially for YouTube. Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet said Q2 2026 was the first time their report included YouTube Live alongside YouTube Gaming, reflecting viewing beyond gaming-focused content. When quoting either total, keep the publisher and tracked scope attached to the number.
Which platforms led the Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet Q2 report?
Within Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet’s Q2 2026 tracked scope, YouTube Live had the largest share of watch time. The platform figures below belong to that report and period; they are not universal shares of all livestream viewing.

The direction of change was mixed. In this report, YouTube Live and Kick gained watch time year over year, while YouTube Gaming declined. Twitch was also down year over year, though its decline eased compared with its Q1 annual decline. The report associated some YouTube Live growth with sports and entertainment viewing. These are observations about the measured quarter, not permanent traits of the platforms.
What the numbers do—and do not—measure
“Livestreaming statistics” can describe different kinds of activity. A total can look larger or smaller depending on which platforms, formats, and categories a tracker includes, as well as whether the figure measures viewers’ accumulated time or creators’ broadcast time.
- Hours watched add up the time viewers spent watching. This is useful for comparing audience activity within a stated scope, but it does not reveal how many individual viewers there were or how large a typical channel’s audience was.
- Hours streamed add up creators’ broadcast time. They describe supply or activity, not audience size.
- Unique channels count channels that broadcast during a period. That is not the same as the number of viewers or a channel’s average reach.
- Average concurrent viewers measure the average simultaneous audience during a stream or across streams, depending on the reporting context.
- Peak concurrent viewers are the maximum simultaneous audience. A single major event can produce a high peak that is not representative of the average.
- Retention and traffic sources are channel-level diagnostics: they help explain viewing behavior and discovery rather than industry-wide scale.
YouTube’s documentation distinguishes average from peak concurrent viewers and lists other live metrics, including hours streamed and retention. YouTube also notes that Analytics data is processed and despammed and can differ from information in the Live Control Room. For a channel-level decision, use the metric that answers the question and check which YouTube reporting surface and time period it represents.

How did livestreaming activity compare with Q1?
For Q1 2026, Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet reported 21.49 billion tracked hours watched, 330.3 million hours streamed, and 11.75 million unique channels. The report described quarter-over-quarter growth in watch time, streamed hours, and unique channels. These are platform-activity measures for its tracked scope; they do not establish individual creators’ income or a typical channel’s reach.

When making a comparison, state the axis before drawing a conclusion: use the same tracker and scope, name whether the baseline is quarter over quarter or year over year, and distinguish audience time from broadcast supply. Content mix and event effects can also influence a quarter’s result.
What do livestreaming statistics say about creator earnings?
They do not establish what a typical creator earns. Platform-wide hours watched cannot be converted into a reliable income estimate: the reports measure viewing activity, while creator revenue depends on factors these totals do not capture. No representative creator-income distribution is established by the cited activity reports or platform help documentation.

YouTube documents several live revenue features: ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers in live chat, and channel memberships. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve an ad; YouTube’s system determines whether one is served. The availability of a feature also does not show that every creator qualifies, that every viewer sees an ad, or that a creator earns a particular amount.

Broad platform totals are context, not a forecast for an individual documentary channel. A large share of watch time does not guarantee discovery, retention, or revenue for a particular film or stream. For decisions about a specific broadcast, look at that channel’s own concurrent-viewer, retention, and traffic-source data alongside the content and period being evaluated.

Starting a livestream does not require a camera or microphone in every case. Twitch’s streaming FAQ describes a stable internet connection and a video encoder as the basics, and says a microphone and camera are not required. A separate USB microphone can be an optional audio choice, not a condition for going live; buying gear is not evidence of future audience growth.
