PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a first livestream, use the device you already have: a phone for a quick mobile broadcast, a computer webcam for a simple desktop stream, an encoder such as OBS for gameplay or multiple sources, or a console’s built-in streaming tools. You do not need expensive equipment. Before going live, check the platform’s eligibility rules, test your connection and audio, and choose settings your setup can sustain.
Choose the streaming route that fits your content
The simplest setup is usually the one that avoids buying gear or adding steps you do not need. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console workflows; its current instructions and eligibility requirements are on YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
| Route | Best fit | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Phone or tablet | Quick updates, mobile vlogging, or a stream where you need to move around. | Check that your account and device meet the platform’s current mobile-streaming eligibility requirements. |
| Computer webcam | A straightforward desktop talk or presentation without complex production. | You need a webcam and a reliable connection; overlays and multiple sources are not necessary for a basic setup. |
| Computer with encoder software | Gameplay, overlays, or combining a camera, microphone, and other video or audio sources. | The computer must handle both the content and encoding. YouTube describes encoders as a common option for gaming, sport, concerts, and conferences. |
| Direct console streaming | Console gameplay when the console’s own streaming workflow meets your needs. | Follow the console maker’s current instructions. A capture card is only relevant when you need to route console video through a computer. |
For YouTube, the current help page says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. Requirements can change, so check the linked eligibility page before planning a broadcast.
What you need—and what can wait
Start with the device, camera, and audio equipment you already own. YouTube’s beginner guidance puts it plainly: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” The essentials depend on the route: a webcam workflow needs a webcam, while an encoder workflow can combine external video and audio sources.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Microphone: Consider an external microphone if your voice is unclear or distant. A headset can also help you monitor audio.
- Webcam: Add one if the computer-based workflow needs a camera and you do not already have one.
- Lighting and mounts: Useful when your room or camera position produces a dark or awkward image, but not platform requirements.
- Capture card: Consider one for a console-to-computer workflow that needs external video capture—not as a universal first purchase.
Choose upgrades to solve a specific problem, and check compatibility with your operating system and devices before buying. The available platform guidance establishes equipment roles, not a universal shopping list or specific product models.
Set up a computer encoder without overloading your system
OBS Studio is one encoder option. Its published system-requirements page lists Windows 10/11 with a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU; macOS 11 or later with an Intel or Apple Silicon CPU and an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU; and an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU for Linux/Unix. OBS’s page is dated 2021-08-25, so confirm current compatibility against the release you plan to install. OBS also cautions that meeting baseline requirements does not guarantee a computer can stream or record successfully.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Install an encoder supported by your system. Follow the software publisher’s current installation instructions.
- Run its configuration tool. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point for the machine and intended use.
- Build the scene you will actually broadcast. Add only the camera, microphone, game or other sources you need; scene complexity affects system demand.
- Test a representative scene. CPU and GPU load depend on encoder choice, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Do not assume a particular processor or graphics card will work for every game and stream.
OBS’s requirements and caveat are documented at OBS Project: System Requirements. Treat a configuration wizard as a baseline, not proof that the complete setup is stable.
Use YouTube-specific encoder settings
The following are YouTube recommendations, not universal settings for Twitch or every other service. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, and AV1 encoder options; recommends constant bitrate (CBR); supports up to 60 fps; and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. It recommends RTMPS as the secure protocol. Check YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its current tables and instructions.

| Published example bitrate | YouTube’s current table lists 2 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps. This is a YouTube recommendation, not a universal minimum. |
Select quality that your upload connection can sustain reliably rather than chasing a fragile target. Run an upload speed test, then test the actual content. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams for viewers on different devices and networks; include audio and representative movement in your test, then watch stream-health messages during the event.
Twitch has separate guidance. Its broadcasting page says to balance encoding, bitrate, resolution, and frame rate against the game, internet speed, and computer. It notes that x264 uses CPU and that a GPU’s dedicated encoder can reduce the impact on game performance. Do not transfer YouTube’s bitrate recommendation to Twitch without checking Twitch’s current Broadcasting Guidelines and your own setup. Twitch’s How Do I Stream FAQ describes a stable internet connection and an encoder—software or a physical device—as basic starting requirements.

Run a first-stream check before going public
- Choose a route—mobile, webcam, encoder, or console—and confirm the relevant platform’s current account eligibility.
- Check that your device, software, and internet connection can support the resolution and frame rate you intend to use. For OBS, run the Auto-Configuration Wizard where applicable.
- Set platform-appropriate encoder options. Prefer a stable picture and sound over a quality target that causes interruptions.
- Where the platform allows it, run a private, unlisted, or otherwise non-public test. Include the real audio and representative movement rather than testing a static screen alone.
- Review the preview and any stream-health messages. Correct audio, picture, or connection problems before the public broadcast.
- During the stream, monitor sound and picture; YouTube specifically advises monitoring stream health throughout the event.
