Lita Ford’s remembrance of Ozzy Osbourne comes back to the music they made together. In a July 24, 2025 interview with Rolling Stone Germany, Ford recalled how an informal overnight session in Los Angeles led to “Close My Eyes Forever,” and described preparing to perform the duet amid a tribute to Osbourne in Birmingham.
Ford’s connection to Ozzy began with Black Sabbath
Ford, the singer and guitarist formerly of The Runaways, said she grew up listening to Black Sabbath and remembered seeing the band at her first concert in 1972. In a separate account of her July 23, 2025 appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk, she described the effect of seeing Sabbath when she was 13: “He changed my life, from the time I was 13 years old going to [a] BLACK SABBATH concert.” BLABBERMOUTH.NET reported that she also said, “And we will all miss him, but his music will live on.”

How Ford and Osbourne wrote “Close My Eyes Forever”
Ford’s recollection, shared in Rolling Stone Germany’s July 24 interview, begins at Record One Studios in Los Angeles in 1987. After Ford’s manager, Sharon Osbourne, left a gift at the studio, Ford and Ozzy went into a small room with a keyboard and guitar. They played together and, Ford recalled, shaped the song over the course of the night. This is Ford’s retrospective account of the session, rather than a studio log.
“Close My Eyes Forever” appeared on Ford’s 1988 album Lita. BLABBERMOUTH.NET reports that the duet reached No. 8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1989, making it Ford’s highest-charting single.

The tribute in Birmingham—and a separate performance in Wolverhampton
Rolling Stone Germany’s article opens with Ford backstage in Birmingham, preparing to perform the duet as part of a stage tribute to Osbourne. A separate BLABBERMOUTH.NET report says Ford performed “Close My Eyes Forever” at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton the day after Osbourne died. These are distinct reported settings, not two descriptions of the same venue.
Osbourne’s death and musical legacy
Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025. In a statement published that day, Warner Music Group identified him as a founding member of Black Sabbath. Kevin Gore, WMG’s President, Global Catalog, wrote: “As a founding member of Black Sabbath, Ozzy was an irrepressible frontman who created in his own brilliant, unpredictable way the very language of heavy metal – occult imagery, sardonic humor, violent daydreaming, surprising romanticism, and at its heart, a body of work that has moved and inspired generations of fans and artists for the past seven decades.” Read WMG’s statement.

- Prince designed "Purple Rain" as the project that would make him a superstar, and surprisingly, that is exactly what happened. Simultaneously more focused and ambitious than any of his previous records, "Purple Rain" finds Prince consolidating his funk and R&B roots while moving boldly into pop, rock, and heavy metal with nine superbly crafted songs. Although Prince's songwriting is at a peak, the presence of the Revolution pulls the music into sharper focus, giving it a tougher, more aggressive edge.
