A January 2025 report suggested Lisa Wilkinson might consider running for elected office, but the claim was attributed to an unnamed source and PerthNow said it had not been confirmed. The later documented development is different: in April 2026, Wilkinson appeared on Nine’s Today to promote her book, The Titanic Story of Evelyn. That appearance is not evidence of a political candidacy or a permanent return to television.
What career move was reported?
On 13 January 2025, PerthNow reported that Wilkinson might run for a seat in an upcoming election. The suggestion came through a Daily Mail report citing an unnamed close friend; it was not a statement from Wilkinson. PerthNow explicitly described the reports as unconfirmed. PerthNow’s 13 January 2025 report
Accordingly, the accurate description is a reported possibility, not an announcement: the available account does not establish that Wilkinson decided to run, nominated for office or secured a political role.
Why did politics enter the story?
The report placed the speculation in the context of Wilkinson’s television work. She had stepped away from Network 10’s The Project in 2022, while her Ten contract was reported to have ended on New Year’s Eve 2024. PerthNow also recalled an earlier statement in which Wilkinson said she was not leaving Ten at that point and that they were considering work ideas. That 2022 comment is not confirmation of a later job or political plan. PerthNow’s account of Wilkinson’s Ten contract and earlier comments

What is documented since the report?
In April 2026, Wilkinson appeared on Nine’s Today to discuss her book, The Titanic Story of Evelyn. Nine describes the book as telling the story of Evelyn Marsden and characterizes Marsden as the only Australian survivor of the 1912 Titanic tragedy; that historical description is Nine’s, and is not independently established here. Nine’s coverage of Wilkinson’s Today appearance
During the appearance, Wilkinson said, “It’s lovely to be back.” The remark referred to being back on the Today set; it did not announce a hosting position. The Australian Women’s Weekly’s 15 April 2026 account

How to read the two developments
- Political candidacy: an unconfirmed possibility attributed in 2025 to an unnamed source.
- Book promotion: a dated, broadcaster-documented Today appearance in April 2026.
The later appearance establishes that Wilkinson promoted a book on television. It does not verify the earlier political speculation, establish a continuing television role, or show whether she later announced a candidacy.
