Lisa Govan disappeared in Kalgoorlie in October 1999, aged 28. Her body has not been found, and a 2025 Coroners Court inquest returned an open finding: it could not determine whether her death resulted from unlawful homicide, an accident or natural causes. A documentary series now says it has released handheld footage of a police raid on the Club Deroes clubhouse six days after she vanished, alongside a possible lead about where her body may have been taken. That is a reported documentary lead, not a conclusion established by the court.

What is known about Lisa Govan’s disappearance?

Govan disappeared in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, in October 1999. She was 28. Her body has never been found. The documentary coverage concerns a disappearance and an unresolved death, not a case in which a killer has been identified or convicted.

There is a date discrepancy in the 2025 PerthNow story: its body refers to October 8, 1998, while the official findings and ABC’s inquest reporting place the last-seen date on October 8, 1999. The story’s own 2025 framing describes the episodes as arriving 27 years after the disappearance. The court record and ABC reporting support 1999.

What does the new police footage reportedly show?

In a report dated November 22, 2025, PerthNow’s Shannon Hampton says new episodes of Catching Lisa’s Killer: Fear and Murder in Kalgoorlie feature handheld footage of police raiding the Club Deroes clubhouse six days after Govan vanished. The West Australian’s series page lists the material in Parts Eight and Nine, including footage inside the clubhouse and a possible mining-lease lead.

These are descriptions from the publishers of the documentary series. The footage and the proposed lead have not been independently assessed here, and neither description changes the court’s open finding. Ben Harvey, The West’s chief reporter, called the clubhouse footage “quite damning”; that is his characterization, not a judicial finding.

Where was Lisa Govan last seen?

ABC’s coverage of the inquest gives the reported timeline described in proceedings: counsel assisting said Govan went out with a friend on the night of October 7, 1999, stayed at the Safari Night Club until it closed at 4:30am, and appeared on CCTV outside with Andrew Edhouse. She was reported to have arrived at the Club Deroes clubhouse at about 5am on October 8. Later witness recollections were part of the evidence considered at the inquest; this timeline should be understood as the account presented in those proceedings, not as a complete or uncontested reconstruction.

ABC also reported testimony that a witness said another man told him Edhouse had jumped on a woman’s head at the clubhouse. The men named in relation to that account denied the incident. It was an allegation, not a proven fact in Govan’s case.

What did the coroner decide?

In Inquest into the death of Lisa Joanne Govan [2025] WACOR 21, the Coroners Court of Western Australia returned an open finding. Coroner Michael Jenkin could not reach conclusions to the required standard about the cause or circumstances of Govan’s death. ABC reported his explanation: “In this case an open finding means that it is possible that Lisa’s death may have occurred by way of unlawful homicide, accident, or natural causes.”

ABC reported that police believed Govan died at the Club Deroes building. That investigative belief is distinct from the court’s conclusion: the coroner said no cogent evidence permitted a finding about the cause or circumstances of death. No one had been charged in relation to her disappearance, according to the reporting cited here.

How should allegations and investigative theories be read?

The inquest considered claims about violence and accounts from witnesses, but testimony and investigative theories are not proof that a named person caused Govan’s disappearance or death. The coroner addressed evidence of a propensity to violence and cautioned against drawing that inference by itself. As ABC quoted Jenkin: “However, without more, that evidence does not establish that either of these men had anything to do with Lisa’s disappearance and/or death.”

The formal findings also describe two disputed claims: one person said they had a childhood recollection of witnessing Govan’s murder, while another claimed to have witnessed an assault. Police did not consider the first account credible and concluded it was fabricated; the findings also discuss credibility concerns around the accounts. These claims should not be repeated as established events.

What remains unresolved?

  • Govan’s body has not been found.
  • The coroner could not determine whether her death was homicide, accidental or from natural causes.
  • The documentary’s reported footage and possible location lead have not been established as evidence resolving those questions.
  • The last movements reported at the inquest do not establish what happened after Govan was seen at or near the clubhouse.

The case therefore remains unresolved. The documentary may offer material for viewers to examine, but its reported claims should be kept separate from the court’s findings.
