In her memoir, Lisa Curry recalled that her daughter Jaimi called after vomiting blood and was taken to hospital. Curry said she was first told Jaimi was sedated and would stay overnight, but the hospital called her back about 40 minutes after she went home. When Curry returned, she said Jaimi was unconscious and on a ventilator, and the family was told she would die that night. The sequence is Curry’s recollection as reported by news outlets, not an account based on published hospital records.

What Lisa Curry said happened

In an extract from Lisa: A Memoir – 60 Years of Life, Love & Loss, Curry described the events leading up to Jaimi’s death. PerthNow reported that the extract was published by The Daily Telegraph. The following account is therefore Curry’s memoir recollection as reproduced in the coverage.

Jaimi was taken to hospital

According to 7NEWS, Jaimi called her mother after she began vomiting blood. Curry and her husband went to the hospital, as did Jaimi’s father, Grant Kenny. 7NEWS reported Curry’s account.

Curry went home, then received another call

Curry recalled that she and the family were initially told Jaimi was sedated and would remain in hospital overnight. She went home expecting to return in the morning. About 40 minutes after she arrived, the hospital called and asked her to come back. 7NEWS reported that Curry and her husband had initially heard Jaimi was stable before being called back when her condition became critical. PerthNow’s report and the 7NEWS account recount this change.

Doctors told the family she would die that night

Curry said Jaimi was unconscious and on a ventilator when she returned, and that her kidneys had shut down. In the memoir passage reproduced by PerthNow and 7NEWS, an unnamed doctor tells the family, “Jaimi will die tonight.” The reports do not identify the doctor.

What is—and is not—established by the reports

Jaimi Kenny died in September 2020, aged 33, after what reports described as a long-term illness or health battle. PerthNow, 7NEWS and The Australian Women’s Weekly have also referred to an eating disorder and alcohol addiction in discussing her health history. Those descriptions are attributed to the outlets; the coverage cited here does not include hospital records or an official medical explanation that establishes a precise cause of death.

That distinction matters: Curry’s account offers a family member’s recollection of a frightening hospital visit and the information she says the family received. It does not independently document the clinical events or explain the medical cause of Jaimi’s death. For context, see the reports from PerthNow, 7NEWS and The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Why Curry chose to share the story

Curry said she hoped speaking publicly about her feelings and Jaimi’s experience might help other people. As quoted by PerthNow, she said: “I do know that, in my own little way, expressing publicly how I feel and what Jaimi went through has helped people.” The outlet also reported that people had contacted her to say something she shared had made their day a little better; that is anecdotal feedback, not a measured outcome.
