Why Ozempic speculation started
After Howery shared a celebratory post about working on himself over the previous five years, commenters questioned whether medication such as Ozempic or Mounjaro accounted for his changed appearance. In a follow-up video, he said, “That’s not my journey,” and explained that he had intended his post to encourage other people. He described the process as a marathon rather than a quick transformation. Yahoo Entertainment’s July 25, 2024 report covered his post and response; theGrio reported on it two days later.
How Howery described his weight-loss journey
In the account reproduced by the July 2024 coverage, Howery said he had stopped drinking, eaten better and worked out almost every day. He also described pursuing therapy, accountability and a closer relationship with God. He spoke about navigating stress and anxiety and acknowledged people who encouraged him along the way. He summed up the effort by saying, “I really work my butt off.” These are Howery’s reported descriptions of his own experience, not a clinically evaluated plan or a guarantee of similar results for someone else.
Exercise, therapy and the timeline he later shared
A later AOL article republishing TODAY coverage, updated January 30, 2025, added context about how the changes unfolded. Howery said his experience making Get Out in 2017 prompted reflection, after which he began therapy and exercising. He described riding a Peloton bike while listening to gospel music, then adding weightlifting and boxing. He also said he noticed a change after he stopped drinking in 2023. These details come from his reported account; the coverage does not independently measure the effect of any one change.

What is—and isn’t—established
The available reports establish that Howery publicly rejected Ozempic as the explanation for his weight loss and attributed his progress to sustained lifestyle and personal changes. They do not provide an independently verified weight-loss total, medical records or a medical assessment of his health. His story is a personal account, not evidence that a particular exercise routine, decision about alcohol or other practice will produce the same outcome for another person.
