What are the charges against Lil Nas X?
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced four felony counts on August 25, 2025: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. Hill pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Van Nuys that day.
The DA identified the case as 25VWCF01389, prosecuted by its Van Nuys Branch and investigated by the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division. At the time of the arraignment, the office said Hill was held on $75,000 bail and faced up to five years in state prison if convicted as charged. That was the potential exposure described when the charges were filed, before the later diversion decision.
What is alleged, and what has been established?
According to the DA’s charging announcement, officers responded at about 5:40 a.m. on August 21, 2025, to a report involving Hill on Ventura Avenue in Studio City. Prosecutors alleged that he assaulted officers attempting to take him into custody and injured at least three. The Associated Press described police allegations that Hill charged at officers after they encountered him on Ventura Boulevard.

Those accounts describe allegations, not a finding of guilt. The DA’s announcement expressly stated that the charges are allegations and that Hill is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. A not-guilty plea is not a conviction, and the reported diversion order is not itself a completed dismissal.
What did the judge’s diversion decision change?
In April 2026, a judge granted Hill entry into a mental health diversion program, formally called postponement of prosecution probation, according to the Associated Press and CBS News Los Angeles. AP reported that the court found the incident resulted from Hill’s since-diagnosed bipolar disorder and was an aberration from his usual behavior.

AP reported that Judge Alan Schneider told Hill the four felony counts would be dismissed if he follows his treatment program and obeys all laws for two years. The reported terms also bar him from possessing guns or making threats of violence. The dismissal is therefore conditional: the available reporting does not establish that the two-year requirements have been fulfilled.
