At Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024, Lil Jon went from a high-energy halftime performance to a very different kind of project: Total Meditation, a 10-track album of guided meditations and mantras. In interviews, he described meditation as a way he turned inward amid personal changes and stress. André 3000 enters the story only as a comparison between artists exploring unexpected musical directions—not as a collaborator or a documented influence.
What Lil Jon did at the Super Bowl halftime show
Lil Jon performed at the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time during Usher’s February 11, 2024, performance. He emerged from a mosh pit to perform “Turn Down for What,” then joined Usher and Ludacris for “Yeah!” XXL also reported that Lil Jon served as the show’s musical director.
He told XXL that the production involved “like 180 different versions” of the set lists. That was his approximate recollection, not an independently verified count. He described the work as “a lot of hard work” and “a lot of figuring out the proper setlists.” XXL’s February 13, 2024 interview covers the performance and his role in shaping the show.
What Total Meditation is
Total Meditation is a 10-track guided meditation project in which Lil Jon voices meditations and mantras. The album was released on February 16, 2024, shortly after the Super Bowl. XXL described its aims as relieving anxiety, boosting focus and helping listeners find peace; those are the project’s stated goals, not proven clinical outcomes. CBS News’ coverage describes the released album, while The FADER reports that it was made with producer Kabir Sehgal.

Why Lil Jon turned to meditation
Lil Jon has linked the album to changes in his life around turning 50. In the XXL interview, he said he had meditated a little before, but that separation and the emotions surrounding it led him to look inward for calm. “So, I found I had to start to go within to calm myself,” he said.
In a later CNN interview transcript, he said he had been meditating daily and that personal issues, health concerns and life changes helped shape the project. He also said he and Sehgal had made it about two years before release, then found a home for it with Tiger Turn and BMG. “Timing was right to put it out after Super Bowl,” he said.

Speaking with NPR’s Weekend Edition, Lil Jon also connected his practice to anxiety and stress, reflecting on his life and marriage, and described using affirmations. He placed the beginning of a health journey approximately around 2010 to 2012, after seeing a younger acquaintance experience a triple bypass. In that interview, he presented the album as an invitation to consider mental health, including the pressure he described on Black men to “man up” and suffer in silence. His account explains his personal motivation; it is not medical advice or evidence that the album treats anxiety. The NPR interview carried by WPRL includes his reflections.
How André 3000 fits—and where the comparison ends
There is no documented collaboration or direct connection between André 3000 and Total Meditation in these interviews. The useful comparison is that both artists have taken creative paths that differ from what audiences might expect from their best-known work.

André 3000’s New Blue Sun is an instrumental project centered on flute. In an NPR interview, he said playing can help him stay in the moment, while cautioning that he would not call it a deliberately designed meditation. “I wouldn’t say that it’s a set-out meditation, but I do think you get into a meditative practice for, you know, staying in the moment,” he said. That makes his comments a point of thematic contrast, not evidence that his album is the same kind of project as Lil Jon’s. NPR’s interview with André 3000, carried by LAist, discusses the album and his approach to playing.

The contrast is striking: Lil Jon helped direct and perform one of the year’s most visible live spectacles, then released a quiet, voice-led album built around meditation. His interviews frame the pivot not as a rejection of his familiar musical identity, but as an expression of a personal practice he developed during a period of change—and a way to invite listeners to think about mental health.
