Lightscape’s 2025 opening-night gallery captures visitors in winter woollies among glowing installations at Kings Park. PerthNow’s 16 June report describes shifting-colour beams, towering flowers, giant bush blossoms, an immersive soundscape and food and drinks beneath the stars. The season has ended; Lightscape’s Perth page says the event will return in 2027, with dates and ticket details not yet stated.
What the opening-night gallery shows
PerthNow reporter Kellie Balaam’s gallery, published on 16 June 2025, focuses on the crowd and atmosphere at the after-dark trail rather than presenting a formal guide to every installation. Its account describes visitors wrapped up for a winter evening, with changing-colour beams and oversized floral forms setting the scene. View the PerthNow gallery.
The reported details include giant bush blossoms, an immersive soundscape, and food and drinks enjoyed beneath the stars. These are details from PerthNow’s report, not first-hand observations by this publication.

The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority’s 2024–2025 annual report records 21 installations for the season and identifies pollinators as its theme. Read the BGPA annual report.
Why pollinators shaped the season
The theme, “Can’t Live Without You,” linked the illuminated displays to pollinators and healthy ecosystems. Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said: “This year’s theme – Can’t Live Without You – shines a spotlight on the vital role pollinators play in supporting healthy ecosystems.” The statement appears in the WA Government announcement.

Lantern Luminance brought that subject into a community-art display. See the BGPA community-art announcement.
