Spoilers throughout. James Gunn’s Superman ends with Clark choosing the person he wants to be, rather than letting his Kryptonian ancestry define him. Its two credits scenes offer small character moments—one with Krypto, one with Mister Terrific—not direct setups for a specific future DCU story.
What happens at the end of Superman?
In the climax, Clark confronts what his Kryptonian parents intended for him and the difference between that purpose and the person he has chosen to become. He reaffirms his commitment to the people of Earth.
The closing sequence turns to his Earth parents, the Kents: Clark watches home-video memories of them, and the film ends with him smiling. The image supports a reading that identity comes not from ancestry alone but from the life and values Clark chooses. That is an interpretation of the montage; no direct explanation from Gunn of this exact final beat is established in the available reporting.
What does the ending mean?
The contrast between Clark’s Kryptonian inheritance and his life on Earth makes the ending a resolution about choice. The Kents’ videos give the final moments an intimate focus: they point toward the family and formative experiences that helped shape the person Superman decided to be.

The film’s journalism thread offers related context, but it is not a direct explanation of the montage. In a July 18, 2025 interview with DC, writer-director James Gunn said, “Journalism is important to me,” and, “I think that people who are relentless in pursuit of the truth—the actual truth—are heroes, and it’s something I admire greatly.” He also said, “Today, when journalists are especially under fire from people all across the political spectrum who don’t want them to be reporting on what is, but instead, on what they want the truth to be, I’m grateful for those people.” Those comments connect the film’s attention to journalism with truth-seeking and public responsibility; they do not establish Gunn’s intended meaning for Clark’s final family-video scene. How many end-credits scenes does Superman have?
There are two scenes during the credits: one mid-credits scene and one at the end of the credits. Both are brief character moments rather than major plot teasers.

Mid-credits: Superman and Krypto on the moon
Superman and Krypto sit on the moon and look toward Earth. The scene gives Clark a quiet pause after the film’s conflicts and a chance to take in the planet he protects. TIME describes the moment as a light character beat rather than a plot-development tease. Den of Geek’s scene explanation and TIME’s credits-scene coverage describe the moment.
Final credits: Superman and Mister Terrific inspect a repair
In the final credits scene, Superman and Mister Terrific examine a building repaired after Metropolis’s destruction. Clark notices that the repair is not perfectly aligned; Terrific is annoyed that his work is being scrutinized. The exchange plays on Clark’s earnest, socially awkward observation and Terrific’s perfectionism and pride in his work. It also suggests that caring for the city and rebuilding it are part of heroism after a crisis. Den of Geek describes the scene and its character contrast in its credits-scene explainer.

Do the credits scenes set up a sequel?
Neither scene directly sets up a specific future DCU plot in the contemporary coverage. TIME says the scenes offer no direct hints about the future of Superman or other DC adaptations, while Den of Geek characterizes them as low-stakes character moments rather than teases for future entries. That does not rule out future appearances for these characters; it means the credits scenes themselves do not point to a particular next story. TIME’s assessment and Den of Geek’s scene descriptions support that distinction.
