The club describes Kasabian as lifelong supporters; Lineker grew up following Leicester, played for the club and says he has continued to support it.
Who are Leicester City’s celebrity fans?
Kasabian and Gary Lineker are two prominent examples supported by clear public records. This is not a complete list: the available reporting does not establish a consistently defined or exhaustive roster of celebrity Leicester City supporters.
| Celebrity | Connection to Leicester City | Public evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Kasabian | The Leicester-formed band is described by the club as lifelong supporters. | Club-documented stadium performances and a clothing collaboration. |
| Gary Lineker | A boyhood supporter who became a Leicester player and has said he still follows the club. | Interviews and reporting on his childhood support, playing career and later connection. |
Are Kasabian Leicester City supporters?
Yes. Leicester City’s 2017 announcement called Kasabian “life-long supporters” and noted that the band formed in Leicester in 1997. The club also said Kasabian performed two shows at King Power Stadium in 2016, following Leicester’s Premier League title-winning campaign. Leicester City’s announcement documents those performances and the band’s connection to the club.
The relationship also extended into club-themed fashion. A 2017 Leicester City collaboration with Kasabian included track jackets, slogan T-shirts and retro football shirts, as described in the club announcement. These public activities make Kasabian’s association more than a claim on an informal celebrity-fan list.

Is Gary Lineker a Leicester City fan?
Yes. In a 2024 interview with Manchester City, Lineker said, “Leicester were my hometown club.” He recalled watching the side from age seven and said playing for them fulfilled a dream. He added that he had followed Leicester ever since and called himself “a massive Leicester City fan.” The interview records his own account of that continuing support.
From childhood supporter to Leicester striker
Lineker’s support began before his broadcasting career. The Guardian reported in 2016 that he attended every home game with his father and grandfather from age seven, joined Leicester straight from school in 1977, and scored 103 goals in 216 games before leaving for Everton in 1985. Those career figures are from the Guardian’s account, not a current club statistic. Read the Guardian’s 2016 interview.

He also remembered attending Leicester’s 1969 FA Cup final defeat with his father and grandfather. BBC Sport quoted him recalling that he cried on the way home. The same report said Lineker had played for Leicester for eight years and helped bring together friends and supporters when the club faced liquidation. BBC Sport’s report provides that account.
Lineker’s reported role during the club’s financial crisis
The Guardian reported that Lineker was part of a consortium that put forward £5m in 2002 to help save Leicester during its financial trouble. This should be understood as a proposed contribution reported retrospectively, not as proof that the money was paid. BBC Sport separately reported Lineker’s recollection that he helped gather “like-minded fans and friends” to help salvage the club as it went into liquidation.

Why Kasabian and Lineker represent different kinds of support
Kasabian’s clearest connection is public and cultural: the club identified the band as lifelong supporters and documented stadium shows and a merchandise collaboration. Lineker’s connection is biographical: he describes following Leicester from childhood, went on to play for the club, and has said he remained a supporter. The evidence establishes two distinct stories, not a ranking of Leicester’s famous fans.
Supporters have not all responded to Lineker’s public statements in the same way. In a 2023 matchday report, the Guardian recorded Leicester fans expressing differing views of his political comments. Those remarks reflect individual opinions at that match, not a survey of the club’s fan base. The Guardian’s matchday account captures that range of reactions.
