Lee Lin Chin presented her final SBS World News bulletin on Sunday, 29 July 2018. The farewell ended a more than 30-year chapter with SBS, but Chin described her departure as a resignation, not retirement. Her sign-off thanked viewers, while colleagues and fans gathered to mark the occasion.
When did Lee Lin Chin present her final SBS bulletin?
The final bulletin aired on Sunday, 29 July 2018. SBS had announced three days earlier that Chin’s last broadcast was scheduled for 6:30 pm. Its departure notice also named Anton Enus and Janice Petersen in the presenter schedule after she left.
SBS described her service in two ways: its 26 July departure announcement said she had spent nearly 30 years behind the news desk, while its final-day coverage said she had been with the network for more than 30 years. Those accounts measure her tenure differently and do not establish one precise start date for her presenting role. SBS’s departure announcement
What did Lee Lin Chin say in her final sign-off?
Chin thanked viewers as she closed the bulletin. SBS reported her words: “I am saddest of all to leave you, the audience,” followed by, “Thank you for watching and a very good night.” She also posted a farewell message: “30 years, it goes by rather fast. Goodbye.” SBS’s account of the final bulletin

Why did Lee Lin Chin leave SBS?
Chin said she had resigned to pursue new projects; she did not describe herself as retiring. In an interview published on her final day, she put it bluntly: “I have not retired, simply resigned. Retirement is death.” She also said she planned to visit Singapore. The public explanation was that she was moving on to new projects; the cited reports do not establish any further private reason.
She reassured fans that she was not vanishing from public life: “I’m not disappearing from the face of the earth, so if they see me I will have all the time in the world to engage with them … as long as they don’t ask for selfies.” SBS’s final-day interview

How did viewers and colleagues mark the farewell?
Fans gathered at Melbourne’s Federation Square for a public screening of the final bulletin. SBS also reported that more than 48,000 Facebook users followed a page devoted to “Lee Lin Chin’s Asymmetrical Outfits.” That figure was a follower count reported in the 2018 departure coverage, not an audience measurement for the broadcast. The cited reports do not give a verified final-bulletin audience total. SBS’s Federation Square report
Colleagues paid tribute during the broadcast. SBS sports presenter Craig Foster called Chin “an extraordinary professional, one of the greatest in the history of Australian broadcasting.” SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid had earlier said she was “truly one of a kind” and that the network would miss her colourful personality on weekend screens.
