Lauren Kwei spoke publicly in December 2020 after the New York Post identified her as an OnlyFans creator. Her story appeared in two different forms that month: a first-person account she wrote for The Independent and contemporaneous interview coverage by Rolling Stone. CBS’s televised interview with Kwei came later, in an episode of 48 Hours that first aired on April 10, 2021. These accounts document what she said about her work, privacy and reaction to being identified; they do not establish her present-day circumstances.
Which Lauren Kwei interview does the title refer to?
The title most naturally refers to the December 2020 coverage, rather than to a single interview with one outlet. Kwei published her own account in The Independent on December 17, 2020, while Rolling Stone published contemporaneous interview coverage of the controversy. CBS later interviewed her for 48 Hours; that television report first aired April 10, 2021, and its page was updated in February 2022.

What did Kwei say about becoming a paramedic and using OnlyFans?
In her Independent account, Kwei said she moved to New York to pursue musical theater, later trained as an EMT and paramedic, and graduated from paramedic school in February 2020. She said she began paramedic work as the COVID-19 pandemic hit and used OnlyFans to supplement her income. These are her account of her own circumstances, not a claim about why other emergency medical workers use online platforms.

Kwei also described the pressure on New York City EMS during the pandemic. She wrote that the service handled around 4,000 calls on a regular day and close to 7,000 calls a day at the pandemic peak. Those figures are estimates in her December 2020 account, not independently verified statistics here.
She presented her online work as a personal decision and a means of making ends meet, separate from the care she provided to patients. “How I make my money in order to help those in need is nobody’s business but my own, and certainly no patient has asked if I’m on OnlyFans before allowing me to help them,” she wrote.

What happened when her identity became public?
Kwei wrote that the New York Post published her full name, photographs, education, location and workplace. Rolling Stone also reported on her being identified and on her concerns about her job and safety. In the later CBS interview, she said she canceled her OnlyFans account after a reporter contacted her and described fearing for her safety once her identity and location were public. CBS also reported her account of receiving a sudden wave of social-media requests.
The coverage describes Kwei’s loss of anonymity and her reaction to it; it does not independently establish every consequence for her employment or safety. Her view was that her online activity did not define her professional identity. She also described feeling empowered by her choice while fearing what could follow from exposure. In the CBS interview, she said, “The human body, I believe it should be celebrated.”

How did Kwei frame speaking out?
Kwei described the disclosure as a matter of privacy and sexism, not as a reason to reduce her identity to her online work. In her first-person account, she wrote: “I have always believed in using my voice to speak for those who may not be heard and I encourage everyone subjected to blatant sexism to do the same.” That statement reflects her own interpretation of what happened and why she chose to respond.

The interviews offer a historical record of Kwei’s public response in 2020 and 2021. They establish what she said at the time about her career path, income, exposure and feelings about the controversy. They do not verify her current occupation, residence or online activity, and the CBS report’s February 2022 page update does not make those details current.

CBS reported that OnlyFans had more than 1 million content providers and more than 90 million subscribers by the end of 2020. That is a historical figure reported in 2021, not a current platform count.
