David Dastmalchian plays Jack Delroy, a talk-show host trying to revive his ratings with a risky live special. The “Stephen King-approved” hook refers to King’s reported enthusiastic response to a screener—not a formal endorsement or role in the film.
What is Late Night with the Devil about?
The film centers on Jack Delroy, host of Night Owls, a once-popular syndicated talk show whose ratings have fallen after his wife’s death. On October 31, 1977, he stages a Halloween special intended to bring viewers back. The guest lineup includes a psychic, a skeptic, a parapsychologist and a young girl said to be possessed.

As the official trailer puts it, “A live television broadcast in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms.” The film unfolds mostly in real time, using the broadcast setup to mix supernatural horror with questions of fame and personality. The television program and events are part of the film’s fictional premise; the trailer is not archival footage of a real broadcast.
What does the trailer show?
The official IFC Films trailer, published March 6, 2024, introduces Delroy’s Halloween special and its guests as the broadcast grows increasingly unsettling. Its compact premise is a TV host attempting a high-stakes special involving the supernatural; the fuller guest lineup comes from the film’s synopsis. IFC Center’s listing describes the story and its mostly real-time structure.

What did Stephen King say about the film?
VicScreen reported that King praised the film after its SXSW premiere and said he had watched a screener. His reported reaction is the basis for the “Stephen King-approved” promotional shorthand. That wording should not be read as evidence that King formally approved the production, officially endorsed it, or had an official role in it. VicScreen’s report attributes the praise to King, but is not the original post.
