In an interview published on 27 April 2025, The Chase Australia host Larry Emdur described the feeling of announcing what was then the show’s largest prize as “unreal.” The PerthNow story previewed an episode due the following week; it did not yet report the completed result. In May 2025, four contestants were reported to have won $129,000. That record was later surpassed by a reported $141,000 win in September 2025.
What Larry Emdur said about the record prize
PerthNow’s 27 April 2025 article republished an interview with Emdur conducted for The Sunday Times. Speaking ahead of the episode, he said the prospect of a life-changing win felt “unreal” and reflected on what the money might mean for contestants: “For some people it’s going to make a whole lot of difference.”
Emdur also framed the prize as a milestone for the show: “It’s such a big milestone for The Chase, I think now people know they can come in and play for proper money . . . if they have a good go in there, they can walk away with a whole lot of money.” The quotations are as PerthNow reported them; the article does not establish a separately verified recording or transcript.
He offered a mortgage, credit-card debt, replacing a car and bucket-list plans as examples of what contestants might do with winnings. Those were Emdur’s possibilities, not confirmed plans or spending by the eventual winners. The interview also said he had hosted the show for four years at that point; that is a time-specific detail from April 2025, not a claim about his tenure today. The $129,000 record was later surpassed
On 30 September 2025, a Media Spy forum post reproducing information attributed to the Seven Network reported a later team win of $141,000. It said the team entered the Final Chase with $41,000 and received another $100,000 from the Mega Money Spinner. Because this account is a forum post quoting network-supplied information, it should be understood as a reported result rather than a direct Seven Network publication here.
| Reported prize | Date reported | Reported breakdown |
|---|---|---|
| $129,000 | May 2025 | $29,000 from regular play plus a $100,000 Mega Money Spinner addition, according to 7NEWS. |
| $141,000 | September 2025 | $41,000 entering the Final Chase plus a $100,000 Mega Money Spinner addition, according to the Media Spy post quoting Seven Network information. |
The September report makes the April interview’s “biggest” framing historical: the $129,000 result was the record associated with that preview and became the reported May record, but it was later exceeded. See the Media Spy post quoting Seven Network information.
