What Larry David said about Richard Lewis
In a statement reported by the Associated Press, David connected their lifelong friendship to a rare mix of comic brilliance and kindness: “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”
Their friendship began when they met at age 12 at summer camp, CBS News reported. On Curb Your Enthusiasm, they later played fictionalized versions of themselves, bringing the familiarity of their real relationship into the show. Before Lewis died, he described “profound affection” and mutual respect between them; David said their old friendship allowed them to speak candidly, according to the Los Angeles Times.
