Larix Broadcaster Lagging on Jio 4G? YouTube Live Settings to Try

Start with 720p30, test upload stability at your broadcast location, set bitrate conservatively, and use YouTube stream health to troubleshoot Larix lag on Jio 4G.

If Larix Broadcaster is lagging on Jio 4G, start with 720p at 30 fps, measure upload speed where and when you plan to stream, and set the bitrate below what the connection can sustain consistently. Enable an adaptive bitrate mode if your Larix version offers one, use a two-second keyframe interval, and check YouTube’s stream-health diagnostics during a rehearsal. There is no single bitrate guaranteed to work on every Jio 4G connection.

Why a 4G signal does not determine your stream bitrate

The 4G label identifies a network type, not the upload speed or stability available at your exact location and time. A connection can fluctuate even when the phone shows a strong signal. If Larix is sending data faster than the uplink can reliably carry it, frames may be lost and viewers may see interruptions or lag. Softvelum, Larix’s publisher, notes that worsening network conditions can cause frame loss with RTMP and RTSP streams; the app’s configured bitrate is a target, not a guarantee of delivered bitrate (Softvelum’s Larix Broadcaster FAQ).

Jio’s published figures for video resolutions concern estimated data consumption while viewing, not guaranteed upload speed for live broadcasting. They are not a suitable basis for choosing a Larix bitrate (Jio’s video data-usage guidance).

Use these starting settings for a Jio 4G rehearsal

Setting Starting point How to apply it
Resolution and frame rate 720p30 Begin at 720p and 30 fps. If lag persists after reducing bitrate, try a lower resolution or frame rate.
Video bitrate Below the upload rate your connection sustains consistently Measure upload performance repeatedly at the streaming location. Leave room for fluctuations rather than setting bitrate equal to a best-case speed test.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds Keep it at or below 4 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four.
Adaptive bitrate Enable an available Larix adaptive mode if the uplink fluctuates Mode names, behavior and availability vary by Larix platform and streaming protocol. Rehearse to see how the selected mode behaves on your setup.
Protocol and encoding Use a YouTube-supported configuration available in Larix YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its listed supported protocols include RTMP/RTMPS, and its encoder guidance specifies CBR and AAC or MP3 audio.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264 at 8 Mbps for 720p30, 8 Mbps for 720p60 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Those are encoder recommendations, not guarantees that a Jio 4G uplink can sustain them. Treat 8 Mbps at 720p30 as a reference point only; if your measured connection is unstable, lower the target. YouTube’s guidance also recommends two-second keyframes, with a four-second maximum, and lists support for H.264, H.265 and AV1, up to 60 fps (YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance).

Measure and configure Larix step by step

  1. Record your setup. Note your phone or device model, operating system, Larix version, selected resolution and frame rate, codec, and bitrate. Larix uses system encoders, so the available settings and actual encoder behavior can differ by device and platform.
  2. Test upload speed at the stream location. Run tests where you will broadcast and under conditions similar to the planned stream. Repeat them at relevant times; do not choose a bitrate from the carrier label or one unusually fast result.
  3. Choose a conservative video target. In Larix, begin with 720p30 and set the bitrate below the upload rate the connection sustains consistently, leaving room for variation. YouTube’s 8 Mbps H.264 recommendation for 720p30 is a reference, not a Jio-specific setting. The appropriate target depends on measured upload stability and your device’s encoder.
  4. Set the keyframe interval. Choose two seconds if Larix exposes the control. Keep it no longer than four seconds, in line with YouTube’s recommendation.
  5. Enable adaptive bitrate if available and appropriate. Larix documents logarithmic descent, ladder ascend and hybrid modes, but behavior and compatibility vary by protocol and platform. The exact controls may not appear on every device or app version. Test the selected mode in a rehearsal rather than assuming it will behave identically everywhere.
  6. Run a representative test stream. Include movement and audio similar to the real broadcast. YouTube specifically advises testing before going live, with representative audio and movement. Where possible, use a private or unlisted rehearsal and inspect stream health.
  7. Adjust one setting at a time. If lag continues, lower bitrate first; if the problem remains, reduce resolution or frame rate. Repeat the same kind of test after each change so you can tell which adjustment helped.

Use YouTube stream health to narrow down the cause

Do not rely only on what viewers report. During a test, check YouTube’s stream-health information for reported configuration problems, including low or high bitrate, high frame rate, or an overly long keyframe interval. The LiveStreams resource documents stream status and health diagnostics (YouTube Live Streaming API: LiveStreams). A warning points to a setting or stream condition to investigate; it does not establish that Jio is responsible.

  • If YouTube reports bitrate as too high, lower Larix’s target and test again.
  • If YouTube reports a keyframe problem, verify the interval is two seconds and no more than four.
  • If health is poor while upload tests also fluctuate, try a lower bitrate and an available adaptive mode.
  • If the reported configuration looks sound but viewers still see lag, reduce one variable at a time and compare rehearsals under similar conditions.

Larix and device behaviors that can affect the result

Larix uses the device’s system encoders. Softvelum notes that frame-rate settings can act as recommendations rather than exact controls, and actual behavior can vary across devices and operating systems. The app’s bitrate is also a target; on Android, a device may enforce a quality floor under VBR, so entering a very low value does not always mean the encoder will honor it exactly. If the measured output does not match your chosen settings, check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and test a lower resolution or frame rate rather than assuming the phone is sending the requested values precisely.
