The Landman Season 2 premiere already happened on November 16, 2025: Episode 1, “Death and a Sunset,” runs 49 minutes, and all episodes are now streaming on Paramount+. Sam Elliott joins as Tommy’s father, T.L., while Cami’s growing M-Tex power and Tommy’s family entanglements raise the stakes.
The title’s “await” framing is therefore historical rather than upcoming. Season 2 is a completed season built around a more crowded pressure system: Tommy Norris must manage M-Tex leadership, family history, cartel-linked consequences, and the oil-field risks drawing his son Cooper into the adult world.

What happens in the Landman Season 2 premiere?
Spoilers for the Season 2 premiere follow.
The premiere places Tommy Norris in a more exposed position than the first season did. Tommy is still M-Tex Oil’s crisis manager, but the new season frames him as someone facing pressure from inside the company’s power structure as well as from the family and outside forces surrounding it.
Paramount’s official promotional material identifies three connected sources of pressure: M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller, and “the shadow of his kin.” The official trailer summarizes the season’s mood with the line, As oil rises from the earth, so do secrets.
That sentence is Paramount+’s promotional copy rather than dialogue presented here as a plot fact, but it accurately captures the premiere’s combination of oil-business danger, family history, and concealed obligations. Paramount+’s official Season 2 trailer provides that promotional framing.
Cami’s position changes substantially after Monty’s death. The official Season 2 guide describes Cami as pushing Tommy toward a breaking point as her authority at M-Tex increases. The premiere therefore shifts the business relationship: Tommy is not merely fixing problems for a distant executive, and Cami is no longer operating from the same position of limited authority.
The episode also introduces Tommy’s father, T.L., and gives Cooper an opportunity in the oil fields that carries him further into adult consequences. Those episode-specific details come from TVLine’s contemporary recap, so they should be understood as secondary recap and interpretation rather than as Paramount’s official synopsis. TVLine’s premiere recap covers that episode-level setup.

Who is Sam Elliott playing in Landman Season 2?
Sam Elliott plays T.L., Tommy Norris’s father. T.L. is more than a prominent new casting addition: his arrival turns Tommy’s family history into an active part of the present story. Tommy is accustomed to managing other people’s emergencies as a father, fixer, and M-Tex operator; T.L.’s presence forces the series to examine the older family authority and experience behind Tommy’s instincts.
The generational conflict also expands the show’s definition of legacy. Tommy is trying to control the risks facing his children and his employer, while T.L. represents the history Tommy inherited rather than chose. That makes T.L. a potentially meaningful pressure point for Tommy’s character, not simply another person available to intensify a confrontation.

Is Andy Garcia back in Landman Season 2?
Yes. Andy Garcia returns as Gallino, who was first seen in the Season 1 finale and becomes part of the regular Season 2 ensemble. Gallino broadens the show’s pressure system beyond the Norris family and M-Tex’s internal disputes, representing cartel-linked consequences that Tommy cannot necessarily neutralize through a phone call, threat, or professional favor.
Colm Feore’s Nathan also becomes a regular Season 2 presence. Nathan is M-Tex’s straight-laced attorney and a de facto member of Tommy’s West Texas household, which makes him a link between legal exposure and domestic entanglement. In Landman, corporate decisions repeatedly become personal because the people handling the legal and business fallout are close to Tommy’s family.
Which returning characters matter most?
| Character | Actor | Season 2 function |
|---|---|---|
| Tommy Norris | Billy Bob Thornton | M-Tex’s fixer faces greater responsibility and pressure inside the company. |
| Cami Miller | Demi Moore | Her authority grows after Monty’s death, putting Tommy under increased pressure. |
| Angela Norris | Ali Larter | Tommy’s ex-wife remains a domestic counterforce in the Norris family story. |
| Cooper Norris | Jacob Lofland | An oil-business opportunity pulls Tommy’s son deeper into adult danger. |
| Ainsley Norris | Michelle Randolph | Family conflict reaches into the younger generation’s social and educational world. |
| Ariana | Paulina Chávez | Cooper’s fiancée becomes a point of vulnerability for the Norris family. |
| Rebecca Falcone | Kayla Wallace | A liability lawyer connects the family’s situation to legal consequences. |
| Sheriff Walt Joeberg | Mark Collie | A law-enforcement figure operates between legal duty and oil-company influence. |
| Dale Bradley | James Jordan | A petroleum engineer and longtime friend gives Tommy a connection to the technical oil world. |
The cast and role information is drawn from Paramount+’s official Landman Season 2 character guide and the network’s Season 2 materials.

How does Season 2 raise the stakes compared with Season 1?
Season 2 raises the stakes by tightening four kinds of pressure around Tommy: family conflict, M-Tex leadership, cartel-linked danger, and the practical consequences of work in the oil fields. The season does not simply give Tommy more crises to solve; it places him closer to the people and institutions that can make those crises impossible to contain.
| Pressure point | Season 2 development | Why it matters for Tommy |
|---|---|---|
| Family history | T.L. arrives as Tommy’s father. | Tommy must confront the older family authority behind his own identity and behavior. |
| M-Tex leadership | Cami gains power after Monty’s death. | Tommy’s role becomes more politically exposed inside the company. |
| Cartel-linked consequences | Gallino becomes a regular presence. | Professional problems extend beyond the company’s ability to manage them internally. |
| Oil-field succession | Cooper receives a consequential opportunity. | The next generation becomes directly involved in the dangers Tommy has been managing. |
| Legal exposure | Nathan and Rebecca connect business decisions to liability. | Corporate fallout can reach Tommy’s household and family relationships. |
This structure gives the premiere several possible engines at once. The editorial question is whether the additional characters deepen the West Texas oil-world setting or merely multiply the conflicts around Tommy.
Is Season 2 better than Season 1?
There is no reliable universal verdict that Season 2 is better or worse than Season 1. The premiere clearly broadens the show’s scope, but the effect depends on whether a viewer prefers oil-industry specificity and workplace tension or the series’ more heightened family, corporate, and cartel melodrama.
The strongest case for Season 2 is its wider pressure network. T.L. gives Tommy’s personal history a face, Cami’s increased authority changes the M-Tex dynamic, Gallino expands the external threat, and Cooper’s opportunity connects the family to the oil fields in a new way.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The main risk is balance. A story about the West Texas oil patch now has to distribute attention among family drama, corporate thriller elements, legal consequences, cartel-linked danger, and the technical world of oil production. Contemporary reaction has differed in tone: TVLine emphasized the new family and corporate setup, while other critical responses questioned the balance between oil-industry drama and heightened melodrama. It is more accurate to describe that split than to claim a consensus.

Paramount reported more than 9.2 million global streaming views for the Season 2 premiere during its first two days. Paramount described the result as a record for a Paramount+ original-series premiere and said it was 262% higher than the Season 1 premiere. These are platform-reported figures, not independently audited audience measurements. Paramount’s November 20, 2025 release reports the Season 2 result and comparison.

For additional historical context, Paramount’s Season 2 production announcement reported 35 million global streaming viewers for the Season 1 premiere. The two figures should not automatically be treated as identical measurements because the available source descriptions use different wording and reporting contexts. Paramount’s production announcement contains the Season 1 figure.
What is the real-world source behind Landman?
Landman is based on the 11-part Boomtown podcast from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly. The podcast is useful context for readers interested in the real West Texas oil industry, but it is source material for the drama rather than a replacement for the Paramount+ series or evidence that every plot event in the show occurred in real life. Paramount’s production announcement identifies the Boomtown podcast behind Landman.
Has Landman been renewed for Season 3?
Yes. Paramount renewed Landman for Season 3 on December 5, 2025. The available sources confirm the renewal but do not establish a Season 3 premiere date, so no release date should be treated as official. Paramount’s Season 3 renewal announcement confirms the status.
