Landman actor Bobbi Salvör Menuez said they expected varied reactions to playing Paigyn, a nonbinary character whose pronouns become a point of conflict in the series. In an interview with Deadline, as reported by Us Weekly on January 18, 2026, Menuez described their responsibility as portraying Paigyn authentically while serving the story and their collaborators.
What Bobbi Salvör Menuez said about reactions
Menuez expected a range of responses because the subject is a political flashpoint. They said their focus was to perform Paigyn in a way that felt authentic to them and served both the story and the people they worked with.

As quoted in Us Weekly’s January 18, 2026 report on the Deadline interview, Menuez said: “Queer people do exist, they’re gonna keep existing.” The report describes Menuez discussing anticipated reactions to the role; it does not establish how many viewers objected, how common any response was, or whether criticism was directed at Menuez personally.
Why Paigyn’s role became a point of discussion
Paigyn is Ainsley Norris’s roommate. The conflict described in Us Weekly centers on Paigyn’s they/them pronouns and Ainsley questioning them. The storyline therefore concerns how characters respond to Paigyn, rather than establishing a measured audience backlash.
