How did Gaga describe the album’s idea?
Gaga said the album began with her “facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” She described the creative process as “reassembling a shattered mirror”: the pieces might not fit as before, but they could become “something beautiful and whole in its own new way.” That image frames MAYHEM as a reconstruction, not simply a replay of her earlier sound.
