What happens in the video?
The clip places Gaga, dressed in a Harley Quinn-inspired look, inside the Louvre. As “The Joker” plays, she draws a smile with lipstick on a surface before the Mona Lisa. The scene presents a provocative image, but reporting on the collaboration described it as fictional; it does not show the painting being harmed. Le Monde’s report on the video also connects the Louvre appearance to the museum’s exhibition about fools.

How does “The Joker” fit into Harlequin?
“The Joker” is one of 13 tracks on Harlequin, released September 27, 2024, as a companion album inspired by Joker: Folie à Deux. Universal Music’s announcement identifies the song and lists the album’s tracks. Universal Music Japan’s release announcement distinguishes Harlequin from the film’s official soundtrack.
Gaga described Harlequin as a companion to the film and her interpretation of its music, alongside a couple of original songs. In a Vogue interview published October 1, 2024, she explained the album’s connection to the movie. She also told Rolling Stone that the project was a Lady Gaga record as well as a work inspired by her character and her own view of what a woman can be; she said it did not adhere to one genre.

Harlequin and the film soundtrack are separate releases
The releases are related to the same film, but they are not interchangeable. Harlequin is Gaga’s companion album, including “The Joker.” The film’s official soundtrack is a separate release. Universal Music’s announcement names both, but does not provide the soundtrack’s full track listing, so the releases should not be conflated or compared track by track on that basis.

Why the Louvre appears in the clip
The Louvre appearance also promoted Figures of the Fool: From the Middle Ages to the Romantics. Le Monde reported that the exhibition opened October 16, 2024, and that its run concluded in 2025. It is historical context for the video, not a current exhibition or a present-day visit option.
