Lady Gaga says she was 17 when she appeared as a background extra in AC/DC’s “Stiff Upper Lip” video—and that crew members asked her to stop headbanging because they wanted the scene to look modern. She shared the story while speaking with AC/DC singer Brian Johnson on A Carpool Karaoke Christmas.
What Lady Gaga said about the video
In a December 16, 2024 report, Blabbermouth quoted Gaga recalling: “I was 17 and I was an extra in the back. I was headbanging and they were, like, ‘Hmmm. Don’t headbang. We want it to be modern.’ And I was, like, ‘No. There’s only one move that I can do.’” The quotation is reported from the special, rather than independently transcribed from its original footage. Blabbermouth’s report describes the exchange.
Where and when she told the story
Gaga recounted the anecdote during her segment of A Carpool Karaoke Christmas, an Apple TV+ special, while talking with Johnson. Stereogum’s December 17, 2024 coverage also reports her recollection and identifies “Stiff Upper Lip” as an AC/DC single from 2000. Stereogum’s report provides that context.
Has her appearance been independently confirmed?
The reports establish that Gaga said she was in the video; they do not independently verify that the person in the background footage is her. The reported surprise in Johnson’s response is not confirmation. Stereogum characterizes the video as a possible screen debut based on chronology, but that is the publication’s inference, not a confirmed milestone.
