Which star’s wardrobe did Lady Gaga buy?
It was Michael Jackson’s. British Vogue reported on December 4, 2012, that Gaga acquired 55 pieces from his former wardrobe at Julien’s Auctions. British Vogue’s report attributed to Gaga a tweet saying she would archive and expertly care for the pieces in the spirit of Jackson and his fans.
That statement records Gaga’s intention at the time; it does not independently establish how or where the garments were later stored, or their present condition.
Did Gaga personally spend millions?
That is not established by the available reporting. The more-than-$5-million figure refers to the total proceeds from the Michael Jackson wardrobe auction, not a confirmed amount paid by Gaga for her 55 pieces. Forbes reported the auction grossed more than $5 million; it also said bidding details were confidential.

Some individual results from the sale were reported: a jacket Jackson wore during the Bad tour sold for $240,000, and a crystal glove sold for more than $100,000, according to Forbes. Those were auction results, not items identified as Gaga’s purchases. British Vogue reported that the specific lots she acquired were not known.

That was a separate purchase. Earlier in 2012, Gaga paid $133,075 for an Alexander McQueen gown from Daphne Guinness’s collection at a Christie’s auction, according to the Los Angeles Times. The gown was not part of the Michael Jackson wardrobe sale.
