In an October 2022 interview, she also described anxiety about his travel and infidelity allegations. Her explanation is her own account, not a complete explanation from both former spouses.
What La La Anthony said contributed to the marriage’s decline
On Call Her Daddy in October 2022, La La Anthony connected a turning point in the relationship to the family’s move to New York after Carmelo Anthony was traded from Denver to the Knicks in 2011. As quoted by E! News, she said, “When we lived here [in New York] under all of that, that’s when things became complicated.” Looking back, she called it “kind of the start of the demise of the marriage.”

She pointed to the press attention and the feeling that people were watching every detail of their lives. But she explicitly cautioned against treating that as a single-cause explanation: “That’s not the only reason things didn’t work out.”
Travel, worry and allegations
E! also reported that Anthony spoke about sleepless nights associated with Carmelo’s travel and her worries about infidelity. Those remarks describe her anxiety; they do not establish that an affair occurred. The coverage does not provide a full account from Carmelo or resolve the allegations.

Why New York became a turning point in her account
Carmelo Anthony joined the New York Knicks in 2011 after being traded from the Denver Nuggets. In La La’s recollection, the move brought a different level of attention to the couple and helped change the conditions of their relationship. She also resisted generalizing from her experience to all couples connected to professional athletes, saying, “So it’s not across the board, so I can only speak to my experience,” according to E!.
What is known about the separation and divorce
- 2011: Carmelo was traded to the Knicks; La La later described the resulting New York spotlight as a point when the marriage became more complicated.
- April 2017: E! reported the couple’s breakup after seven years of marriage. Coverage at the time included pregnancy allegations, which sources for Carmelo denied; E! said no child was confirmed. Those allegations should not be treated as established fact.
- June 2021: La La filed for divorce after the couple had been separated for years, according to Entertainment Tonight.
- October 2021: In an interview with Angie Martinez, she discussed the public split and its emotional impact.
- October 2022: She gave her account of factors in the marriage’s decline on Call Her Daddy.
How La La described the public split
In the 2021 Angie Martinez interview, as reported by Entertainment Tonight, Anthony said the separation was difficult partly because it unfolded publicly and involved allegations and other people. She described the experience this way: “I was bad because it was public. I was bad because there were other people involved. I was bad because there were allegations. It got bad.”
She also said she and Carmelo were in a good place and could co-parent without drama. That account offers context about their relationship after separating; it does not change the limits of what can be concluded about the private causes of the divorce.

La La Anthony’s interviews provide her perspective: she linked the New York spotlight to a change in the marriage, described personal anxiety around travel and infidelity allegations, and said those were not the only factors. They do not establish a definitive, shared account of why the marriage ended.
