Spoilers for the 2024 Knuckles series finale. Knuckles and Wade defeat the Buyer, but the ending’s larger payoff is Knuckles’ change of heart: Earth is no longer just the place where he guards the Master Emerald. It has become home, with people he loves and wants to protect. That shift is the clearest connection to Sonic the Hedgehog 3—not a direct post-credits handoff.
How the finale resolves the fight
Knuckles and Wade’s pursuit by G.U.N. agents and the Buyer culminates in a confrontation. In the finale recap published by TV Insider, Wade protects his family and helps Knuckles when the Buyer’s powered suit briefly gives the Buyer the advantage. Knuckles ultimately destroys the suit and defeats him.
The bowling contest settles a separate conflict. Wade stands up to his estranged father, Pistol Pete, and wins. The victory matters beyond the score: Wade is increasingly willing to act with courage for the people he cares about, which complements his help in the physical showdown.
Why Knuckles chooses to protect Earth
Knuckles begins the series defined by a warrior’s purpose: obtain and guard the Master Emerald. The finale’s emotional resolution is that this purpose has widened. His relationships and experiences on Earth give him a personal reason to defend the planet, beyond the duty attached to the Emerald.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Co-creator Toby Ascher described the change in a TVLine interview published April 27, 2024: “This show asks what the warrior does after the war is over, and what we ultimately learn is that Knuckles’ values are shifting from being focused entirely on the Master Emerald to falling in love, having a relationship with friends on this planet, and finding a home.”
The arc is built through ordinary experiences as well as combat. TVLine’s recap points to a Shabbat dinner, watching Pretty Woman with Wade’s mother, and the Reno bowling competition. Those moments help make Earth familiar and meaningful to Knuckles; the finale’s action is the test of what he now values.

What the ending means for Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Paramount places the six-episode Knuckles series after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and before Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as stated in its series announcement. That establishes the chronology, but the finale is not presented as a direct cliffhanger or post-credits bridge to a specific event in the film.

Ascher’s explanation points instead to character continuity: “Going forward in the franchise, he has found his family and he’s going to protect them — and that means protecting this planet.” Knuckles enters the next part of the franchise with a reason to care about Earth as home, not merely as the location of an object he must guard.
A recap also suggests that the Buyer’s mention of Dr. Robotnik, Wade’s new confidence, and G.U.N.’s experiments with alien power could connect to the film. Those are possible connective threads, not confirmed setup for any particular Sonic the Hedgehog 3 plot point. The stronger, explicit link is Knuckles’ changed motivation.
