Idris Elba voices Knuckles and Adam Pally plays Wade Whipple, the two central characters of the live-action event series Knuckles. Returning from the Sonic films are Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails. The rest of the cast is a wider ensemble of recurring performers and guest stars. The six-episode series follows Knuckles as he trains Wade and is set between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The leads
Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba
Knuckles is the Echidna warrior who gives the series its title and drives its story. Elba voices the character, continuing the role he has in the Sonic films.
Wade Whipple, played by Adam Pally
Wade is the human trainee at the centre of the show. Paramount describes the premise around Knuckles agreeing to take Wade on as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior, so Pally’s character is the show’s point of view on that training.

Returning Sonic film characters
Three characters from the films return with their original performers, as named in Paramount’s February 8, 2024 release:
- Maddie, played by Tika Sumpter.
- Sonic the Hedgehog, played by Ben Schwartz.
- Tails, played by Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Spell the surname as shown; it is easy to misspell.
The official releases list these three as special guest stars rather than series leads, so their screen time should not be read as equal to Knuckles and Wade.

The wider ensemble
Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) and Ellie Taylor appear in the recurring-cast listing. Rory McCann is named in the guest ensemble, and Stockard Channing, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel are named as guest stars in the February 8, 2024 release. The releases do not attach character names to most of these performers, so any name you see attached to them elsewhere should be checked against the official credits on the streaming service before you repeat it.
The April 2023 announcement named only a partial cast. The February 2024 announcement added the fuller ensemble and confirmed the returning Sonic performers, so it is the more complete list.

Where the story sits in the Sonic timeline
Paramount’s February 8, 2024 announcement states: “The series takes place between the films SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3.” That placement explains why the show features Maddie, Sonic and Tails in the setting of the films, and why Knuckles’ training of Wade happens in the gap between those two movies rather than as a sequel to the third film.
Format and release
The series is a live-action event series of six episodes. It is not animated: the Sonic characters appear within a live-action setting. The February 8, 2024 announcement scheduled all six episodes for April 26, 2024 in the United States and Canada, April 27, 2024 in other Paramount+ territories, and later in 2024 in Japan. The same announcement said the series would stream on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Checking where you can watch it today
Those launch dates and territory arrangements were announced in 2023 and 2024 and describe the rollout at that time. Streaming rights and catalogs change, so they do not establish where the series is available now. To check current availability:
- Open the Paramount+ app or website and search for “Knuckles” in the search bar.
- If the title does not appear, check the SkyShowtime or other regional service listed for your territory.
- If you are outside the regions named in the 2024 announcement, confirm the title’s status with your local service before assuming it is available.
Whether a particular service is currently streaming the series in your country is something only the service’s own catalog can confirm.
