The February 11, 2024 Super Bowl trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes sets up a reversal of the old human-led world: generations after Caesar’s reign, apes are dominant and humans survive in the shadows. “Humans go feral” is a shorthand for that premise, not a phrase from the studio’s official synopsis. The trailer introduces a conflict over an emerging ape empire, but it is a teaser for the film rather than a complete account of its plot.
What the Super Bowl trailer establishes
Verified 20th Century Studios published “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes | Official Trailer” on February 11, 2024, during the Super Bowl LVIII campaign. The official trailer description places the story several generations after Caesar’s reign. It does not give a precise number of years, so the safest measure of the time jump is the studio’s own wording: several generations.

The shift in power is the premise’s central change. The studio describes apes as the dominant species and humans as reduced to living in the shadows. That makes “humans go feral” an interpretive summary of their diminished position, not confirmation that every human has lost language, intelligence, or agency.
Who are Noa and Proximus Caesar?
D23, in a studio-owned feature about the film, identifies the young ape at the center of the story as Noa and the new tyrannical leader as Proximus Caesar. The trailer’s setup places their journeys on opposing sides of a struggle over power and the meaning of the past.
#1 Best Overall
Noa’s journey
Noa’s story begins with a challenge to what he believes he knows. The studio synopsis says his journey will lead him to question his understanding of the past and make choices that affect the future of both apes and humans.
Proximus Caesar’s empire
Proximus Caesar is the tyrannical leader building an empire. The name connects him to Caesar, but the trailer’s premise does not establish that he is the same figure or that his rule simply continues Caesar’s ideals. It presents a new leader and a new conflict generations later.

What “humans go feral” means—and what it doesn’t
The phrase captures the stark contrast suggested by the trailer: apes hold power, while humans have been pushed out of the dominant position they once occupied. The studio’s confirmed description is more specific and restrained: humans live in the shadows. It does not say that all humans are feral or explain every community’s condition.
The film’s larger question is how Noa’s discoveries and decisions will affect both species. The official synopsis frames that as a journey with consequences for the future, rather than a simple account of humans reclaiming control.
