King Stingray announced on 19 March 2025 that it had parted ways with founding lead singer Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu, just before the band’s Australian For The Dreams tour. The band said Ngalakan Wanambi would step up on vocals; it did not publicly explain Yunupiŋu’s departure.

Why did Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu leave?
The announcement did not give a reason, and the reports from PerthNow and Rolling Stone Australia likewise reported no public explanation. There is no basis in those statements for attributing a motive or describing the circumstances beyond the band’s announcement that the two had parted ways.
What happened to the tour?
The announcement came just before the Australian tour began in Sydney on the evening of 21 March 2025. The tour was billed around King Stingray’s 2024 album For The Dreams and was set to travel to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. PerthNow named Beddy Rays and The Belair Lip Bombs as support acts. The ABC report described the personnel change; it did not report a cancellation or postponement.
