During the crisis that followed Israel’s attack on Iran in June 2025, readers revisited older posts attributed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A June 20, 2025, Futurism article by Joe Wilkins highlighted his remarks about happiness, books, relationships, childhood and US racial injustice—and the online jokes prompted by their unexpected tone. The examples below are the posts Wilkins selected, not a survey of the account’s full archive.
Why the old posts drew attention
Wilkins’s article appeared on June 20, 2025, amid the crisis following Israel’s attack on Iran. The renewed attention was less about breaking news from Khamenei’s account than about the contrast between the moment and the subjects of posts written years earlier. The report mixed those excerpts with users’ humorous reactions, particularly to the relationship advice.
What the posts said
Happiness and smiling
Wilkins dates one post to April 2014. His article reproduces Khamenei’s wording as: “A life without #happiness and smile is a hellish #life,” followed by “A heavenly life, is a life with smiles.”
Books, poetry and the arts
A post dated to 2015 described a preference for reading over visual arts. As reproduced by Wilkins, it read: “I’m not into cinema and visual arts but when it comes to poetry and novels, I’m not just a typical audience. #Books #AvidReader,”

Understanding a partner
In a post Wilkins dates to September 2013, Khamenei wrote: “Man has a responsibility to understand #woman’s needs and feelings and must not be neglectful toward her #emotional state,”
Wilkins says another post followed about a month later and addressed honesty and emotional fidelity between partners. The article transcribes it as: “if wife/husband feels his/her partner’s heart harbors in some other sea;is [sic] not honest;is hypocritical;whatsoever the love bestowed, will fade.” The “[sic]” is part of the report’s transcription.

- Next War: Iran is the sixth game in the Next War series.
- It is unique in the series in that the Allied player has to do the attacking while the non-Allied player attempts to defend its territory against neo-imperial oppression.
- With a long logistical tail, few true allies in the region, and the menace of Iran's A2AD capabilities, re-opening the Straits is a tall order.
- Ownership of any previous Next War series will NOT be required to play Next War: Iran.
- 1-2 Players | Ages 14+
A childhood memory
Wilkins also describes a 2013 post recalling that Khamenei felt uncomfortable wearing a cloak in front of other schoolchildren. The article quotes him describing himself as “naughty and playful.”
US racial injustice
The report says Khamenei commented on protests after Freddie Gray’s death and referred to other Black Americans, including Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin. Wilkins reproduces the post as: “they [the US] celebrate a day for abolition of slavery but such crimes are committed against the blacks [sic]. #EricGarner #TrayvonMartin #BlackLivesMatter.”

What is verified—and what is not
The quotations here are attributed to Khamenei’s social-media posts by Wilkins’s Futurism article. The linked X pages could not be read during reporting: one returned no page content and others produced access errors. That means the wording is verifiable here as a transcription in the Futurism report, not as an independently checked live post. The article’s selections also should not be mistaken for an exhaustive review of the account.
