He said he had been outed, stressed that he was not ashamed, and objected to the idea that he had been hiding: “I was never hiding.”
When did Khalid confirm he was gay?
Khalid addressed the discussion in two posts on X. The Independent and Billboard Canada reproduced his statements and reported the immediate timeline.
- November 22, 2024: Khalid posted a rainbow flag and asked followers to move to the “next topic.” When a user asked whether he was gay, he replied, “I am! And that’s OK.”
- November 23, 2024: He wrote, “I got outed and the world still continues to turn.” He also said he was not ashamed of his sexuality and that it was not anyone else’s business.
What did Khalid say about being outed?
In replies to fans, Khalid pushed back on the suggestion that he had concealed his sexuality. He wrote, “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business,” and, in another reply, “I was never hiding.” Those words appeared in the same November 2024 exchange reported by The Independent and Billboard Canada.
What did “I was never hiding” mean?
Khalid’s distinction was between hiding his identity and keeping his personal life private. He said the online attention had made him feel outed, but he was not ashamed of being gay and did not consider his sexuality something the public was entitled to know.

- Free Spirit
In a June 2025 interview with Billboard Canada, Khalid described himself as protecting that part of his privacy. He also recalled that after the disclosure, fans continued singing along to his music in the same way. That later reflection adds context to his privacy comments; it is separate from his November 2024 posts.
What preceded his posts?
Reports said social-media posts by a former partner preceded Khalid’s statement. The Los Angeles Times covered the exchange and claims circulating online on November 25, 2024, but those claims should be understood as allegations attributed to another person, not as independently established facts. Khalid’s own confirmation and comments about privacy are distinct from that surrounding dispute.
