What is Lift about?
In this 2024 Netflix action-comedy, master thief Cyrus Whitaker and his international crew are recruited to stop a terrorist attack by stealing gold in midair. The proposed haul is $500 million in gold from a vault aboard a passenger plane flying at 40,000 feet—a fictional premise, not a real-world statistic. Netflix’s title page describes the airborne gold heist, and its Tudum feature gives the wider setup.

What kind of movie is it?
Lift leans into glossy, high-concept escapism rather than grounded crime plotting. TIME’s January 12, 2024 review called it an undemanding early-year pleasure, while also noting the premise’s absurdity and the action’s restraint. That is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus rating. If you enjoy a far-fetched caper with an ensemble cast, that looseness may be part of the appeal; if you want a tightly credible plan or forceful action, it may frustrate you.
Who is in the cast, and how long is it?
Kevin Hart stars as Cyrus Whitaker. The principal ensemble includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Vincent D’Onofrio, alongside Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington. F. Gary Gray directed the film. Netflix Tudum lists the runtime as 1 hour 47 minutes. Gray told Netflix, “I love the heist genre and the idea of pairing Kevin Hart with a world-class cast.”
