Yes. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were teenage extras in the Fenway Park crowd scene in Field of Dreams (1989), and Kevin Costner says he remembers them from the shoot. On Jimmy Kimmel Live on May 21, 2024, Costner recalled their synchronized movements and enthusiasm in the stands.
What did Kevin Costner remember about them?
Costner described Damon and Affleck sitting together in the stands “like college guys.” He recalled that they would “both lean in at the same time, lean back at the same time, look at each other at the same time.” He also remembered their energy: “They had this big enthusiasm. They were on fire. I do remember them, absolutely.” Us Weekly reported Costner’s recollection from his May 21, 2024 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Were Damon and Affleck really extras at Fenway Park?
Yes. They were part of the crowd gathered for the baseball-game sequence filmed at Boston’s Fenway Park. MLB’s account of the film identifies both actors among the extras at Fenway. The film was released in 1989; Us Weekly reported that Affleck was 16 and Damon was 18 while working on it.
Where can you spot them in the finished movie?
The available accounts place them in the Fenway crowd, but do not establish an exact frame or close-up that reliably identifies either teenager. They are best described as uncredited or difficult-to-identify extras, not featured characters. Their presence in the scene is supported; a precise on-screen sighting is not.

What did Matt Damon recall about the set?
During the same conversation, Jimmy Kimmel read a message from Damon. Damon remembered Costner coming out to spend time with the extras between setups and said Costner “was very nice to us.” Meeting him stood out because Costner already had the kind of career the young actors hoped to build.
