The song’s title also reflected the period of preparation before the record arrived. In a June 2024 interview with Decibel, King said: “Idle hands do the devil’s work, so that’s what I’ve been doing for the last four years preparing for my record to come out.”
What is From Hell I Rise?
From Hell I Rise is King’s debut solo album. Reigning Phoenix Music announced it for May 17, 2024; on release day, Forbes reported that the 13-song album was available on CD, vinyl, and streaming. That confirms release-era formats, not current stock or availability of any particular edition.

The announced lineup put King on lead guitar with Paul Bostaph on drums, Kyle Sanders on bass, Phil Demmel on lead guitar, and Mark Osegueda on vocals. The label identified Bostaph with Slayer, Sanders with Hellyeah, Demmel as formerly of Machine Head, and Osegueda with Death Angel.
Who produced the album, and where was it recorded?
Josh Wilbur produced the album. Reigning Phoenix Music said most of it was recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles in about two weeks. Wilbur described King in the label announcement: “He does know exactly what he wants. He doesn’t beat around the bush.”

What does the album sound and write about?
King described the material in the announcement as covering “various religious topics, some war entries, heavy stuff, punky stuff, doomy stuff, and spooky stuff, with Herculean speeds achieved.” The description points to a range of metal styles and themes rather than a single concept.

Some material has a specific link to Slayer’s Repentless sessions, but that does not mean the album as a whole consists of leftover Slayer songs. In a June 2024 Decibel interview, King said the title track and “Rage” had originally been recorded for Repentless, complete with lyrics and lead-guitar parts, before being rerecorded for From Hell I Rise.

King also framed the solo record as a continuation of his work as a musician. In Reigning Phoenix Music’s announcement, he said: “Even with a record in the can, I’ve still got so many songs that need to be finished. This is what I know how to do…number one being music, number two being metal. It’s been a part of my life for 40 years, and I’m nowhere near being done.”
