Kerala police registered a rape case against Malayalam actor and CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh in August 2024 after a woman actor gave a statement to a state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), according to contemporaneous reports. Mukesh denied the allegation. The case later moved to a reported chargesheet, but the available reporting does not establish a court verdict or a later case outcome.
What the complaint and case registration establish
On August 29, 2024, Maradu police registered a rape case after the complainant’s statement was recorded by the SIT, The New Indian Express reported. The News Minute described the complaint as one of sexual assault. These reports establish that a case was registered following an allegation; they do not establish that the alleged events occurred. The New Indian Express and The News Minute reported the registration on August 29, 2024.
The New Indian Express reported that the alleged incident predated the commencement of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, so police used provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The choice of statutory provisions reflects the reported timing of the allegation; it is not a finding on its truth.
Mukesh’s response
Mukesh denied the accusation. The Indian Express reported that he characterized it as “blackmail tactics” and threatened legal action. That phrase was Mukesh’s characterization of the complaint, not an established account of the complainant’s motives. The Indian Express reported his response on August 29, 2024.

Arrest protection and anticipatory bail
Bar and Bench reported that a Kerala court ordered temporary protection from arrest on August 29, 2024. In September 2024, the Ernakulam sessions court granted Mukesh anticipatory bail, The Indian Express reported. Bar and Bench covered the temporary protection, and The Indian Express reported the later bail order.
These were procedural decisions concerning arrest and release conditions. Bail does not decide whether the allegation is true and is not a finding of guilt or innocence.
The reported chargesheet
On February 2, 2025, Cinema Express and The News Minute reported that the SIT filed a chargesheet in the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Their accounts described digital communications, witness statements and circumstantial material as part of the investigation. Reporting about material cited in a chargesheet is not a court’s assessment of its weight or proof. Cinema Express and The News Minute reported the filing.
