A former junior artiste accused Malayalam actor-producer Baburaj of sexually assaulting her in 2019 after offering her a film role, according to reports published in August 2024. Baburaj denied the allegation. Police registered a case, and the Kerala High Court reportedly granted him anticipatory bail in November 2024. The available reporting does not establish the case’s later course or its status as of October 8, 2026.
What the former junior artiste alleged
The Indian Express reported on August 26, 2024, that a former junior artiste accused Baburaj of sexually assaulting her in 2019 after offering her a role in a film. The coverage described Baburaj at the time as joint general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The complainant is not named in the reporting cited here.
The News Minute reported the next day that the woman had emailed a formal complaint to the Kerala government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT). In her account, Baburaj invited her to his home in Aluva to discuss a film role, where she alleged he sexually assaulted her. She said she had not complained at the time because she feared the consequences.
The News Minute attributed this statement to the complainant: “Baburaj had invited me to his house in Aluva, claiming that the director, the casting director, and the production controller of the film were all at his house.” This is her reported account, not a finding by a court or investigator.
